A former Commerce Department official in the Trump administration was sentenced to a five-and-a-half year prison term after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography, federal prosecutors announced last week in a court filing. Under the terms of his plea deal, Adam Hageman was also sentenced to five years of parole after release and a mandatory requirement to register as a sex offender.

Hageman was arrested in November of 2020 after he was found to be a member of an online group chat dedicated to sharing images of child sexual abuse.

The site’s name on which the discussions allegedly took place has not been publicly disclosed, but according to an affidavit filed by prosecutors, Hageman shared with members at least one video of a child being molested, claimed to have sexually abused a child as young as 15, and indicated that he wanted to sexually assault children between the ages of 12 and 16 years old. Prosecutors asserted that they found “dozens” of child sexual abuse videos on Hageman’s phone after federal authorities executed a search warrant against him.

A 2024 presidential run could be in the works for former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

"We've got a team in Iowa, a team in New Hampshire and South Carolina. And that's not random," Pompeo, 58, said during a fundraising event in Chicago on Tuesday, Politico reported. "We are doing the things one would do to get ready."

Pompeo, who was appointed director of the CIA and, later, secretary of state under former President Donald Trump, also took a swipe at his onetime boss. "Unlike others, if I go down an escalator, no one will notice," Pompeo joked, referring to Trump's famous ride down the Trump Tower escalator after announcing he was running in 2015.

"We are trying to figure out if that is the next place for us to serve," Pompeo continued, according to Politico. "If weconclude [running for president] is, we'll go make the case to the American people of why that is. And in the end, the American people, I pray, will make a good decision about who's going to be their next leader."

A former campaign manager for both of Kentucky's U.S. senators, who was convicted on criminal charges in 2016 and pardoned by President Trump in late 2020, is facing more federal charges.

Jesse Benton has been indicted on multiple counts, including conspiracy to solicit and cause an illegal campaign contribution by a foreign national, the Department of Justice said in a statement Monday.

Benton is accused of "conspiring" with Roy Douglas “Doug” Wead of Florida "to solicit a political contribution from a Russian foreign national."

Wead told the foreign national he could arrange for them to meet with a 2016 presidential candidate "in exchange for a payment," the Justice Department says in court documents.

A Republican strategist was sentenced Friday to 1.5 years in prison for facilitating an illegal contribution from a Russian businessman to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016.

Jessie Benton, who worked for the pro-Trump super PAC and was a longtime aide to former GOP Rep. Ron Paul, was convicted by a federal jury in November on several charges, including conspiring to solicit an illegal foreign campaign contribution.

Both the Trump campaign and Trump himself were not aware of the scheme involving Russian money, the Justice Department has said.

According to evidence presented at trial, Benton helped a Russian national secure a ticket to a Republican National Committee event in 2016, where he would have the opportunity to meet and take a picture with Trump. The Russian national paid Benton $100,000 to get the ticket, prosecutors said.

Benton created a fake invoice suggesting he had received the money for consulting services, donated $25,000 of that money under his own name to the RNC to get a ticket to the event and pocketed the remaining $75,000.

I remember when she did standup before the TV show. I saw her (Tonight show, I think) and she was funny. I enjoyed her standup comedy; hated the show.

Now she is just a nasty old has-been.

I imagine he was living cheek by jowl with more brown people (illegal immigrants to the UK) than he had ever done before, and I'm hoping the experience may have improved him in several ways.
