7/8 if you count going into the shop instead of pausing by the window.

I never rounded a corner and ran but I have crossed the street to be closer to people.

Once I was driving home from the hospital after a 10 hour shift, at night, and spotted a group of what looked like stoners hanging by the side of the road. I stopped dead in the street, did a 3-point turn and backtracked. It took me 10 miles out of my way but I didn't hesitate.

I remember walking down a Minneapolis street years ago and my heels definitely made a walking noise. A woman was maybe 15 feet ahead of me. I saw her take out a mirror from her purse to look behind her. Yeah. That's the reality.

I’ve crossed the street

Stopped to look at my phone

Gone a different way

Walked slower

When I’ve noticed I was getting to close to a woman on a street - especially at night.

See, had the creator of this image included a mention of syphallis, perhaps --- aw, dang.
But the sunshine aye shall light the sky,
As round and round we run;
And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

I'm probably going to get myself in trouble again, but this series of posts by you ladies really bothered me when I read it. And of course, being a red-blooded American man, my first instinct was to fix it. How do you make women feel safe? Most of us guys have no idea of attacking you, but I realize that I am a big, rangy, obvious man, and I've probably scared the crap out of some women without even realizing it.

I do make an effort today

And I'm reading a book I like, and in the book a woman was captured by a primitive group of people who were eating all the people who flinched or tried to run away, because if you behave like prey, it triggers violence in a predator. So this lady decided to act like a predator and scare the crap out of the primitives, and she never gave an inch and ended up with the primitives worshipping her.

And after returning to civilization, she said, "I realized that I had a choice - act like prey and die, or maybe try to live instead, so I decided to live."

I did that once in Kansas City in the middle of the night. A big dog came out from between some cars, drooling and growling and headed straight for me. I bent a little and made fists with both hands, and I told him to bring it, because I was going to rip his throat open. I left him no doubt that I was the meanest dog on that street, and he went looking for someone else.

But I realize it's hard for women to be, or even to act like predators. Not everyone can do it. But if you can, maybe that will help you in a bad situation.
The more I learn about this planet, the more improbable it all seems. :confuzzled:
