Good. That means we can elect children to office, and then perhaps the People's Business will actually be accomplished.

Conservatives have actually been squawking about raising the voting age to somewhere between 21 and 28. FWIW.

IIRC, ACA, aka Obamacare, is very similar to the recommendation the Heritage Foundation made to counter HilaryCare in the 90s. So, in a sense, they did write our laws.

Now the Federalist Society is our judiciary.

I don't recall if it was the Heritage Foundation or some other right-wing thunk tank (CATO perhaps?). But yes, it started there and Gov. Romey implemented it in Massachusetts and Republicans were fine with it. Then along comes Obama and the Democrats using the same template--but then it was SOCIALISM!

Oklahoma, where plotting the murder of reporters and discussing hanging Black people is OK, but taping it in a supposedly public meeting will get you arrested and charged with a felony.
Oklahoma Sheriff Says Recording Of Officials Discussing Killing Reporters Was Illegal
:snippity:
A southeastern Oklahoma sheriff’s office says the recording in which the sheriff and others are reportedly heard discussing killing two journalists was illegal and predicted felony charges will be filed.
:snippity:
“There is and has been an ongoing investigation into multiple, significant violation(s) of the Oklahoma Security of Communications Act ... which states that it is illegal to secretly record a conversation in which you are not involved and do not have the consent of at least one of the involved parties,” according to the statement.

Joey Senat, a journalism professor at Oklahoma State University, said under Oklahoma law, the recording would be legal if it were obtained in a place where the officials being recorded did not have a reasonable expectation of privacy.

Bruce Willingham, the longtime publisher of the McCurtain Gazette-News, said the recording was made March 6 when he left a voice-activated recorder inside the room after a county commissioner’s meeting because he suspected the group was continuing to conduct county business after the meeting had ended in violation of the state’s Open Meeting Act.

I'm so old I remember the LUV campaign (Let Us Vote) to let 18 yo vote. If they were old enough to draft and send to Vietnam, they should be able to vote. I even remember the theme song written by Boyce and Hart: L U V, talking about you and me, we're going to change it peacefully...

I mean, I'm presuming the defense attorney will note that the conversants had no expectation of privacy in the commission chamber, regardless of whether a public meeting actually was taking place, since all commission meetings conducted in that chamber are supposed to be public. But this may be again an area where law trumps reason.
But the sunshine aye shall light the sky,
As round and round we run;
And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

https://www.newschannel5.com/news/newsc ... ng-interns
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A member of GOP leadership in the Tennessee House of Representatives was recently found guilty of sexually harassing at least one legislative intern, likely two, by an ethics subcommittee acting in secret, NewsChannel 5 Investigates has learned.

Rep. Scotty Campbell, who serves as vice chair of the House Republican Caucus and who recently voted to expel three Democrats who engaged in a gun violence protest on the House floor, suffered no consequences as a result of his actions.

Despite accusations of sometimes extremely vulgar comments and other inappropriate advances, Republicans did not remove the 39-year-old East Tennessee lawmaker from his leadership position nor from his committee assignments.

But taxpayers have paid for his actions.

NewsChannel 5 has learned that potentially thousands of dollars have been spent to protect one victim, relocating her from the downtown apartment building where she and Campbell both had apartments, shipping her furniture back home in another part of the state and placing her in a downtown hotel for the remainder of her internship.

Legislative officials refused to say how much they've paid out, saying that information is confidential.

Confronted with the allegations Thursday as he headed to Capitol Hill, Campbell referenced a second intern who was also involved in the investigation. NewsChannel 5 was previously unaware of that individual's complaint.

"I had consensual, adult conversations with two adults off property," he insisted.

"I think conversations are consensual once that is verbally agreed to. If I choose to talk to any intern in the future, it will be recorded."

Perhaps, but $17,000 doesn't seem all that much for a state-wide organization in a state of 7.25 million residents.

That's sloppy reporting. The appeals court opinion not-linked in the article affirmed the dismissal and the $18k+ award, plus awarded attorney fees (amt TBD) for having to defend this pile of crap on appeal. Is the $17k that was supposedly affirmed the original sanction or the additional sanction? If the latter, they should have described it as AWARDED, not AFFIRMED.

The sanctions are small because the lolsuit was dismissed quickly and because only one defendant asked for attorney fees. No punitive award was sought or granted.

We turn our attention once again to the Texas Legislature that proposes SB1515 requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in every classroom. So sayeth the Lord. (cough)

SB1515 specifies this text for the commandments which differs from the original 1611 King James Version quite a bit.
I AM the LORD thy God.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven images.
Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the
land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor
his maidservant, nor his cattle, nor anything that is thy
neighbor's."
I anticipate many lawsuits about this.
