I realize it's a lot of dress and the photo of her standing still doesn't do it justice. I saw a clip of her arriving and she looked like she was floating across tropical fronds. I think she looks fabulous (and as for the shaved head, I was unaware she suffered from alopecia. I would have thought it a fashion statement as she is clearly capable of pulling it off).

That is not bad, I agree.

My post was off the back of an article in Melbourne's "The Age" bemoaning the apparent trend to separate the "girls", strap them down, and squeeze them out the back. Gaga's outfit was one that was highlighted.

If you want to see Red Carpet moments:
https://ew.com/oscars/oscars-2022-red-carpet-photos/

I was in our traditional Oscar watch chat with another forum I participate in - we've been doing it for over 10 years. Most of us just watch to make catty comments about the fashion. But when "the slap" happened, we went crazy! "Did he really hit him?" "Did your sound just go out?" "Twitter say Will Smith said the F word 2 times!"

Thanks MRich!
I’ve no idea who half these people are!
There are more dresses I like in this piece.
Trends I don’t get:
The ruched donut in the middle of the dress. Nicole Kidman just looks awkward ( where do I put my arms???) but where else could she put them?
Caitriona Balfe’s (Outlander lass) donut is less large and looks better.
Maggie Gyllenhall’s custom-made dress looks like she’s been trapped in the stocks. Ugh. Least favorite by far. A visceral reaction.

I love Zendaya’s look. (Who?)
Lupita Myongo always looks beautiful.
I think my favorite dress is Saniyya Singleton’s (who?). She looks so happy in every shot I’ve seen, and no wonder. It makes me happy, too.

(Still to dumb to figure out how to share from that site)

Jada Pinkett-Smith's dress WON the red carpet. I wants it! She is my size so I won't have to hem it!

I don't watch the Oscars, just wait for the red carpet pics.

Here are some others I liked.

ETA. Zendaya does everything! Sing, dance, act, advocate for girls and women. She was in The Greatest Showman.

Lupita Nyong'o is beautiful in everything!!!!!!

Vanity Fair selected Nicole Kidman's donut in the middle as the best dress on the red carpet.

I think Billie Eilish wears oversized things because of a possible body dysmorphia. There is also possible sexual abuse history. What say ye, LM K?

I love this one. A little goth, a little art deco, and very romantic. I have no idea who the woman wearing it is though.

Agree on all counts
I love Zendaya’s look. (Who?)
She starred on a DIsney show and has been in the recent Spider-Man movies and Dune

I couldn't figure out what was up with Wesley Snipes' outfit. Initially it looked like a perfectly normal, reasonable fashionable monochrome satin tuxedo, but then I scrolled down and saw the satin embroidered apron and pants that I can't tell if they're shorts with matching leggings or tall socks underneath or if they're just loose at the top and crimped really tight to the leg at the bottom.

After that, my computer quit loading pictures...

Men: Rami Malek looked handsome and every inch the movie star. Kodi Smit-McPhee, whoever he is, looked like an otherworldly alien who floated down to Earth.

Women: agree that Jada looked incredible in that dress. Serena's dress was also sensationally gorgeous. However, I feel that Young Hollywood owned the night and Kristin Stewart and Zendaya showed the fashion wave of the future.

As weird as that is, I like it. Only on Wesley Snipes, though. Or maybe Sandra Bullock.

ETA I also got a kick out of Bill Murray’s attitude. He’s the only one who posed a little differently.

I feel so old and out of touch right now. I think there were - at most - 15 or 20 people who I recogized or whose names I was familiar with.

I think my favorite picture (not necessarily outfit - I haven't figured out which one I liked best) was Little Nas X, just because he has such an adorable grin in that shot. Of course, I also enjoyed him in the Uber Eats ads he did with Elton John. I've never heard his music though...

The Good: Paula Arenas; Charlotte Lawrence; Bonnie Raitt; Halsey; Addison Rae; Leon Bridges; Inanna Sarkis; Janine Rubenstein
The Bad: Billie Eilish; Avril Lavigne; Benny Blanco; Laverne Cox; Laura Veltz
The Ugly: Donatella Versace; Tiara Thomas; Laura Veltz
The Stoopid: Arlo Parks; Justin Bieber; Spice
The Really Carefully Arranged: Kali Uchis; Kylie Rae Hall

Special Mention: Bella Harris - I don't know who she is and her outfit is fine, but damn girl, you got your legs on backwards!

I was gonna put in a "Trying Too Hard" category, but it woulda had too many entries - probably about three quarters of the males.

Some of the drag queens were great, but the ones that weren't great were really really bad. I guess that's the nature of drag though.

About half those people need to go home, change clothes and start over.

Loved seeing the photo of Big Chief Monk Boudreaux but surprised there was no beading.

I thought about putting this in the Dance thread but this video is really more about the dress. There was an exceptional amount of engineering involved* to keep Rita Hayworth's dress in its intended position. This (and Grace Kelly's gowns in To Catch A Thief) is what got me interested in fashion. Sometimes I think I was born 30 years too late.

► Show Spoiler
It should be noted that, while Ms Hayworth had a beautiful singing voice, for this number the vocals were dubbed.
