we started planning a Fogbow Meetup/Illuminati Company Party.

If anyone else is interested in seeing each other etc...

I can spend a weekend anywhere east of St Louis easy and anywhere Western Hemisphere with a few casualties among the interns.

Anyone?

I'd love to do something like this but it's impossible for me to commit. The only possibility for me would be if/when Hubs gets accepted for transplant, and a match is found,* he has to spend 100 days up in Tampa under close 24/7 monitoring. You know, rejection, infections, whatnot. I'll visit as much as possible but I may also take advantage of the nursing care to visit some friends and family.

So plan away. If it works for me, I'll be there.

*Doc said being a white male is the golden ticket in the bone marrow stem cell lottery. He said there may already be a match in the registry. (Donating bone marrow stem cells isn't a big deal, not like donating a kidney.)

For a split second I thought you were suggesting St. Louis! Whew! Nobody wants to spend a weekend in St. Louis and I'm from there. Actually, I'm there right now. And not anywhere in Indiana, please.

They kill people in Ohio!

(Private joke between my husband and I. We watch a lot of true crime shows and they always seem to be about dead people in Ohio.)

One of those bigfoot sightings in ND ended up being a really tall drunk guy in a fur coat. I remember the story. :D :rotflmao:

I’m in for wherever.

At some point I’d like to host a meetup here at Maybelot, but the earliest I could do it is April. So if ya’ll want to do one sooner somewhere else, I’m up for that, and we could do a Maybelot one some later time.

My plan for a Maybelot meetup would be to fill up the six extra bedrooms that I have available as people commit, then I’d rent airbnbs nearby after my rooms are full (there are several within a mile of here). Then we’d count heads and split the cost of the airbnbs among everyone who comes (including me and my husband). That way everyone pays the same whether they stay here at Maybelot or not (and it won’t be a lot).

Again, I’m not necessarily pushing for the next meetup - but I would like to host one at some point.

Didn’t mean to derail this conversation. If we do an Ohio meetup, where and when? Any ideas, Ohioans?

Yeah, the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame is in Canton, which Alexa says is only 60 miles from Cleveland. Just a suggestion.

Cleveland is generally considered a suitable punishment for petty criminals, moreso in winter.

Columbus is nicer, and Cincinnati has an incredible museum at Union Terminal plus great food on The Banks.

Jeff Ruby's is worth the trip all by itself.

But Ohio anywhere works for me.

Dayton is worth the trip just for the Air Force Museum. (autocorrect wanted to go to the airfare museum) And it is close enough to Cincy to be a nice side excursion.

There's Cuyahoga Valley National Park, America's newest NP until the Feebs messed things up by adding newer public lands that they can't actually own, we all know that.

Yes, there are many interesting places to visit in the Cleveland area. But Gregg is not wrong about the "mistake on the lake". I spent more than 20 years in the Cleveland area and as the city was dying, I stupidly hung on too long, even as friends were moving and encouraging me to get out.

The landscape of the city has changed dramatically since I left an it is now being renovated as a medical hub. (Cleveland Clinic). They have torn down much of the old abandoned manufacturing buildings along the lake shore and put up new pricey condos. They are trying their best to give the city a facelift and a fresh coat of paint.

Speaking of the Cuyahoga Valley park, it is home to Blossum Music Center. Saw many shows there. It is acoustically the best amphitheater I have ever been to. The Cleveland Symphony uses it also for their summer concert series. (Yes, Cleveland has a symphony orchestra).

There are also a couple of great art museums in Cleveland proper which are well curated.

It WAS dying, but the city is not dead. Just don't go in the winter time.

If it ends up in Cleveland, unless it is on a day I really cannot miss at the church, I might have to go and probably spend some time at my brother's place or I would catch all sorts of hell from my SIL.

Being from Cincinnati I am required by law to not like Cleveland, at least during football season and for sure after Week 1 this year. I will of course abide whatever y'all decide sounds like fun.

Although....

And I am really warming up to Cincinnati/Dayton with out of town people staying in Wesr Chester or Monroe. Which is about halfway between.

I propose something like this. .

A welcome dinner Friday, Air Force Museum Saturday AM with Omnimax Movie Saturday Evening and Saturday Dinner at The Precinct, which is Jeff Ruby's headline place. Then Sunday morning at Cincinnati Museum Center which is a convenient location to flee from if you're not local. All destinations within 30 minutes of hotels in West Chester or Monroe. I welcome anyone else's ideas, I just did that off the top of my head.
