I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do that type of expedition. The closest I've ever been to a bear in Alaska was about 10-12 feet away. It was a huge black bear. We had just come off a glacier hike in Kennecott in Wrangle Elias National Park. Our hiking guide told us to stick together so that we looked like one huge entity and not a threat to the bear. That was enough close experience for me.

Hi Sequoia!
That Peaches sure is adorable! Was she separated from her family? Bless you for not sleeping for weeks so this fluffball will live.

Mama was seen taking a sibling away but didn't come back for Peaches. Apparently a lady watched for a few hours and then decided she'd better intervene. She took Peaches to the Rescue I foster for, Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode, where she was dried, warmed, cord cut and placenta removed. My son drove the 1 1/2 hour round trip to pick her up.
I have a home made incubator so I get the tiny bottle babies. Peaches quit eating after a few days. Fortunately I can tube feed. She's 5 1/2 weeks old now and going to a new foster next week for "finishing". She needs a more active household for better socialization than I can give.
Here she is in the incubator at 3 days old:
Then I can take new bottle babies.

Wow! I see this is in Asheville, NC, and he has been filming them for a few years. He says they are tame enough, and he's careful, but a mama bear with cubs can be very dangerous.
Nice video, though.

He seems to know that, too.
Mama clearly brought them on a tour of the neighborhood to meet him. He’s respectful and I love how he says “thank you” at the end.

Exactly. She was choosing to engage with a familiar location and the curious biped who happens to live there.
I know purists get concerned about such interactions, but barring the literal extirpation of bears from areas where humans dwell, it's just inevitable. You'd much rather see interactions that are mutually respectful and calm than the alternative.
