We had a deer give birth to a fawn at the bottom of the steps to our back deck one year. She left it alone soon after, but returned later. My understanding is that newborn fawns have no odor to attract predators, so the mother leaves it alone for a while, and goes off to get her scent away and gain strength to go back to the fawn. Not sure if all of that is true, but that's what I've heard. The deer here did give birth, leave, and return an hour or so later.

I grew up in South Land Park, about a mile from the Sacramento Zoo. On warm summer nights, with all the windows open, we were lulled to sleep by the sounds of howler monkeys and all the big kitties saying goodnight to each other (or so my mom said).

I can't wait to show my grandgurlzz these posts. Last night we saw the Cats! thread.

They’re in the kingfisher family.

I’m not keen on hand feeding animals. I think they should be kept scared of humans. Not all humans are decent, and some are very bad indeed.

Yeah, there’s concern about Grizzly 399 and her four big cubs because apparently Jackson Hole doesn’t mandate bear-proof garbage bins. There’s video of them in town the other night.

They’re back in Grand Teton now but here’s the video of the stroll around town.

Ahh - the Japanese cat island. The cats now this guy, seek him out for scritches and some timeout on his knees. The guy publishes his walks and en-cat-ours every so often

Poor little guy got caught in the hailstorm on Saturday during his walk so I had to warn him up.

Titan and please don't insult him by comparing him to a pug. He's a French bulldog

Do you have a heated bed for Titan? If he is like our Boston Terrier, Bandit, Titan will think it is the greatest thing since liver treats. Bandit's is an old-style one that we have hooked up to a smart plug, but the modern ones have auto shutoff.
