At the bastion of liberalism, Sharon Rondeau's The Post & Email, seems to be all in on RFK Jr. How nice of Jeff to be so concerned and excited by his "surge". As Bob has pointed out, Sharon is OUTRAGED that RFKJ is being "censored". Now this:
Kennedy Surges Despite Bias and Censorship
12 hours ago by Jeff Crouere, Ringside Politics

(Apr. 30, 2023) — The worst nightmare for an incumbent President is to receive a serious intra-party nomination challenge. In recent history, it has happened three times. In 1976, a conservative challenger, former California Governor Ronald Reagan, made a valiant attempt that almost succeeded in denying the GOP nomination for President Gerald Ford.

In 1980, U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) vigorously challenged President Jimmy Carter for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. In 1992, conservative commentator Pat Buchanan offered Republican Party voters an alternative to moderate President George H. W. Bush. While none of these intra-party nomination challenges were successful, the incumbent Presidents were weakened and eventually lost the presidential race to their opponents in the general election.

In the upcoming 2024 election, a similar scenario is emerging in the Democratic Party. This week, incumbent President Joe Biden announced in a video that he is running for re-election. To say his announcement “landed with a thud” is an understatement. Biden is very unpopular with the American people. In a recent Gallup poll, only 37% of respondents approve of Biden’s performance, while an astounding 59% disapprove of his presidency. [Note: Jeff forgets to mention T****'s popularity.]
► Show Spoiler
MAGAts have been HOWLING about the DNC not planning debates. You could see a few puffs of smoke from their heads when the twice-impeached one-term loser on trial for rape said he didn't see any point in debating in a much more competitive primary. Brain function does not stop Jeff.

In the real world:
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s threat to Biden is inflated in polls. Here’s why.
Kennedy is pulling as much as 19 percent in early polls, leading Republicans to hope he’ll damage Biden
Analysis by Aaron Blake Staff writer April 27, 2023 at 5:43 p.m. EDT

The good news for President Biden’s just-launched 2024 reelection bid is that, for now, it doesn’t appear as though it will include a serious primary challenger. The bad news is that he’s ceding a significant and potentially embarrassing chunk of voters to an anti-vaccine activist. Multiple recent polls show Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pulling double-digit support in the primary, including a Fox News survey Wednesday that showed him at 19 percent.

That network has frequently covered Kennedy’s campaign and interviewed him more than once over the past week or so, as certain Republicans have made clear they see utility in elevating Kennedy to undercut Biden. How much might the candidacy actually undercut Biden? It’s probably worth not overselling the early polls, for a few reasons.

The National Review this week published an article suggesting that such a double-digit performance from Kennedy could prove costly for Biden. No incumbent president in the past 50 years has ceded that much of the vote to a primary challenger and won reelection, it noted. That’s technically true, but it ignores a whole lot of nuance.

The first point is that we’re talking about a small sample size. There have been only three such instances, all more than 30 years ago: Ronald Reagan’s 1976 challenge to Gerald Ford, Ted Kennedy’s 1980 challenge to Jimmy Carter, and Pat Buchanan’s 1992 challenge to George H.W. Bush.

Dude, don’t you know by now not to make declarative statements like that about him? Now that ticket is practically guaranteed.

Just to quell any speculation, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will I join Donald Trump on an electoral ticket.
What a relief!

So do our minutes hasten to their end . . .

He would jump at a position that gave him the CDC..
His first action would be to remove the 2nd “C” function.

Alex Jones will endorse him right away and they can do a redux of the gay frog video.

Indeed, don't get me wrong -- I got my first shot at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka on government orders a week before departing to come home for home leave, then had to scramble to find a pharmacy (one that was over 45 minutes drive from home in a rental car) away that would give me ONLY the second shot of Pfizer. All of my boosters since were out of the Embassy in London. I am high risk (50+-year-old diabetic with lungs already a bit damaged by the air quality in Bangladesh) so didn't need to be ordered, and for State, the order wasn't as harsh and absolute as for the military, but it was still a firm expectation. When your entire job description as an organization is basically public contact and pressing flesh, even the support staff kind of have the expectation of not being a communicable disease vector, yanno?

Saw a vid of him speaking yesterday. First time I've ever heard his voice and that alone would be enough to keep me from voting for him. 4 years of that would be unbearable.

According to ABC News, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suffers from "spasmodic dysphonia, a specific form of an involuntary movement disorder called dystonia that affects only the voice box." This is not a life-threatening illness but it can certainly affect one's quality of life.
I know he has a rare condition that affects his voice, but I can never remember what it is.

I'm not disagreeing with you, Sugar. Four years of it would be awful. Even the campaign would be intolerable.

I've been wondering that, too. I feel so awful about his descent into whatever it it. One hears anecdotally about how enough booze and heroin will break your brain. That was a long time ago, but...one wonders.

I had such a political crush on RFK Sr., and can still remember the night I lay in bed as a kid, sobbing, when the news of his death came. I was rooting for Jr to make good and save the world, and didn't understand how he could engage in substance abuse at that level--those were the days when we took such things as a measure of moral character.

Anyway, it makes me sad.

Joan Walsh weighs in. She was the editor on RFK's insane anti-vax article in Salon 20 years ago. Must read.

I’ve been doing my best to ignore the farcical presidential candidacy of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. His noxious views on vaccines, the origin of AIDS, the alleged dangers of wi-fi and other forms of junk science deserve no wide hearing. Polls showing he’s favored by 20 percent of likely Democratic voters over President Biden are almost as laughable as Kennedy’s views. It’s early; he’s got iconic American name recognition; and there’s almost always an appetite, among Democrats anyway, for anybody but the incumbent. His lies have been thoroughly debunked by Judd Legum at Popular Info, Michael Scherer in The Washington Post, Naomi Klein in The Guardian, and Brandy Zadrozny on NBC News.

LAST MONTH, SUPPORTERS of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential bid created a Super PAC titled Heal the Divide. On its website, the group — whose name is borrowed from Kennedy’s own campaign slogan — advises voters that “Only Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. can unite the Nation to start healing America,” and allows visitors to donate both in dollars and cryptocurrency.

There’s nothing abnormal about a candidate getting a Super PAC, even a candidate making a long-shot bid like Kennedy’s. What is abnormal, however, is that Kennedy is running as a Democrat in the Democratic primary, while the creators of the Super PAC have a deeply pro-Donald Trump bent — including ties to arch-MAGA officials such as Marjorie Taylor Greene, George Santos, and Herschel Walker.

Federal Election Commission filings list Jason D. Boles of RTA Strategy as its treasurer and use RTA’s website and mailing address. In 2022, Greene’s campaign and leadership PAC, Save America Stop Socialism, paid the firm more than $372,000 for work on her 2022 congressional race, according to data compiled by OpenSecrets.

The Georgia-based RTA, founded by political consultant Rick Thompson, also worked for Walker in his failed 2022 Senate race in Georgia. Thompson served as custodian for Walker’s campaign committee and Boles worked as treasurer of the committee, earning the firm roughly $50,000, according to campaign-finance records. More recently, Boles and Thompson have signed on as treasurer and designated agent, respectively, for the embattled Santos after the indicted congressman struggled to find personnel to handle his campaign finances.

Reached by phone, Thompson declined to comment on the Kennedy Super PAC. “We have a strict policy at our firm that we don’t discuss our clients,” he tells Rolling Stone. And the Heal the Divide site does not advertise its Republican backing. But a mistake on the group’s website gives away its origins: The site’s terms of service appear to have been copied and pasted from MAGA PAC, a Trump Super PAC, and incorrectly refers to the Heal the Divide site as MAGApac.com.
