False History

Post by Suranis »

This is an example of the bollox History that is starting to infest Facebook. Or maybe I am seeing a lot more of it since I responded to that Cleopatra nonsense.

Each one of these obelisks was stolen from ancient Kemet/Egypt.

Now located in the St. Peter's Square, the Vatican Obelisk was brought from Onu(Heliopolis) during the reign of Caligula and set up on the spine of the Circus of Gaius and Nero in Rome. It is a monolith of red granite without Mdu Ntr(hieroglyphs) with a height of 25.36 meters.

Beginning in the late Roman period, nearly all of the limestone architecture of Onu(Heliopolis) was carted away to build Cairo, leaving little to see above the surface. Over time, most of the city’s obelisks were removed, carried off first to decorate Alexandria, and then to Rome, Paris, London, and even New York.

As you can gather, this is complete freaking Nonsense.

I don't know offhand about the Vatican one... but even if its true as written, it was done by the Roman freaking Empire, which hasn't existed for 1300 years. If you want to complain about what Caligula did, then dig him up and sue him.

The London and New York ones were donated by the Egyptian Government, not stolen. There were 2 donated to France but the French only took one to Paris, and the other one now stands in Istanbul. The London one took 50 years to be transported to London as the Brits weren't really care enough to actually move it.

And as for the Washington monument - IT WAS CONSTRUCTED IN THE MID 1800s. There isn't a molecule on it that has seen Egypt.

So, ya its safe to assume there isn't a thing in that speech that is actually true. But you point that out and the "We are Moors" types and "Nation of Islam" types and scream "false white history," or similar.

And they like to say "Kemet" because it is a word that means Black, and it was one of the names of the Old Egyptian empire. Therefore the Egyptians were Black, right? Uh, no. As I had to explain to a black guy who told me that was the reason, the reason it was called "Kemet" was because of the black soil left behind after the Nile River Floods. That black soil was the basis for Egyptian life, wealth and power, so of course they would think it important enough to name their kingdom after it.

Plus, calling their Kingdom "Black" because of Black skin in frigging Africa would be nonsense.

In the comments someone was saying that Egypt was the Mother tongue of the English language, because the Greeks copied everything from the Egyptians and the Romans copied the Greeks. WHAT???

That's, unsurprisingly, not true. Like everything other Empires influence things, but The Greeks were more influenced by the Persian Empire. The Romans did copy huge amounts of Greek culture as they had a serious inferiority complex about the Greeks, but they would have been also directly influenced by Carthage in Libya, whom they fought 3 wars with and eventually destroyed, bringing lots of artwork back to Rome. They even had a Story that Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, came from Carthage.

The whole thing of course is a nonsense anyway because the slaves that reached the USA would have mainly came from West and Central Africa, nothing to do with Egypt. But that's all white mans history, therefore false, right?

Yes, in that story Romulus and Remus were descendants of Aeneas of Troy.

Yes, a minor character in Homers' Illiad that survived the war. The Roman, Virgil, wrote his Epic poem, the Aeneid, based on him.
