I have stopped posting about Texas wild fires that are less than 1000 acres because there are so many of them. Made an exception for this one because Clay County is just east of our county.

Like so many Texas counties Clay County has a small population (about 10000 residents) which could not handle a several hundred acre fire without help from the Texas A&M Fire Service.

A fire broke out at the Hoover Dam on Tuesday at about 10 a.m. local time when a transformer caught fire, sending plumes of black smoke into the air, according to the Bureau of Reclamation.

The fire was extinguished about 30 minutes later by the Reclamation/Hoover fire brigade, the bureau’s Regional Director Jacklynn L. Gould said in a statement. There were no injuries to employees or visitors, Gould said.

“There is no risk to the power grid and power is still being generated from the powerhouse,” Gould said. “We are investigating the cause of the fire and will provide additional updates as they are available.”

The Hoover Dam is located where Lake Mead meets the Colorado River on the border of Arizona and Nevada.

I saw pictures of the transformer fire. The most likely culprits are a bad winding (internal fault) or a bad bushing (external fault). The geometries involved make it unlikely that any damage to the main structure of the dam occurred.

I wonder what it will take to open the climate-change deniers' eyes.

But that's obvious. You have to promise that you can fix the problem without spending money or doing anything. That's unpossible, but it's what they want to hear.

Earthlings don't fix anything until it's really an emergency. Which is stupid, because as I often say, there's an unlimited opportunity to make money generating clean and renewable energy.

On the bright side, some people have already started.
Out from under.
