I'm hazy too. But anyway, it was a great speech.

2 House Republicans caught saying Ilhan Omar removal was the 'stupidest vote in world' before begging reporters to not tell GOP leadership

Warren Rojas,Brent D. Griffiths
Thu, February 2, 2023 at 10:45 PM GMT+1
  • House Republicans removed Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from one of her committees on Thursday.
The party-line vote struck at least a pair of GOP members as a dumb move.
The dejected duo called it the "stupidest vote" and panned leadership for making Omar a "martyr."
Two disillusioned House Republicans unloaded on their vengeful leadership for inadvertently making a hero out of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar by publicly stripping her of a high-profile committee assignment in what one deemed the "stupidest vote in the world."

The not-so-private condemnation of Speaker Kevin McCarthy's campaign to remove Omar from the House Foreign Affairs panel happened after Republicans clinched the retaliatory strike on a party-line vote of 218-211.

As they rode the elevator away from the House floor, congressional newspaper Roll Call reported that Foreign Affairs Committee GOP member Ken Buck and Republican Rep. Mike Simpson reflected on what had just transpired and decided it was a boneheaded move.

After Buck decreed it the "stupidest" political move, Simpson said the expulsion would probably make the Minnesota Democrat into a "martyr."

After airing their grievances, the pair reportedly asked those around them "not to let leadership know their thoughts."

Buck and Simpson's offices did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

The polarizing ouster only fell into place after McCarthy won over a handful of Republicans who had voiced objections to the effort — including Republican Reps. Nancy Mace of South Carolina and Victoria Spartz of Indiana — by promising to reform internal punishment procedures moving forward.

Ruling the House by fear. McCarthy's fear of the insurrectionists' likelihood of voting him out and the House members' fear of their base, their fellow House members, and McCarthy. It's a circular firing squad.

Republicans quash Democratic ban on carrying guns in a congressional committee room

Dareh Gregorian and Haley Talbot
Thu, February 2, 2023 at 12:38 AM GMT+1

The House Natural Resources Committee's first meeting of the year turned heated Wednesday when a Democratic member offered an amendment that would prohibit lawmakers from carrying guns in its hearing room.

Rep. Jared Huffman, D-Calif., said he was proposing the "sadly necessary" amendment because it's a "major issue of safety for members of our committee."

He noted that the Republican-controlled Rules Committee removed a provision that Democrats had put in place for the previous two-year period prohibiting firearms in hearing rooms and committees. One of the new GOP majority's first acts was to remove the magnetometers that former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had installed outside the House chamber after the Jan. 6 riot.

"To be clear, members and their staff are already prohibited by law from carrying guns into the hearing rooms and conference rooms of this Capitol. Currently, under statute and Capitol Police Board regulation, members are supposed to have firearms only in their offices," Huffman said.

María Elvira Salazar bill condemning ‘horrors of socialism’ clears House with 86 no votes

Jesse Scheckner
February 2, 2023

Republicans argue socialism is an evil that must be stamped out. Democrats say it’s a ‘boogeyman’ issue GOP lawmakers use to gut American benefits.

A U.S. House resolution describing and condemning the “horrors of socialism” is on its way to the Senate.

The bill, introduced by Republican U.S. Rep. María Elvira Salazar and co-sponsored by 107 other House members, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, cleared the chamber floor Thursday by a 328-86 vote.

Every “nay” vote came from Democrats. Another 14 Democrats refused to take a side and voted “present.” Six Representatives, three from each party, did not cast votes.

The bill, a clone of legislation Salazar filed in July 2021, calls for no tangible action. After nearly two pages detailing the awful impacts of socialist governments across history, the measure calls on Congress to denounce socialism “in all its forms” and oppose the use of “socialist policies” in America.

“Every socialist is a dictator in disguise,” said Salazar, a former journalist born in Miami to Cuban exiles, while arguing for the resolution Wednesday.

“Socialists are in the business of power, and it only takes one generation to believe their false promises and lose our freedom. It is a lie that socialism will solve your problems, economic or social. Democratic socialism is socialism. Socialism is always socialism. We cannot let this evil ideology take hold in this country.”

Her concerns aren’t baseless. Roughly 36% of U.S. adults still view socialism positively, according to the Pew Research Center. Conversely, 57% view capitalism favorably, though favorable opinions of both have declined modestly since 2019.

Just why would it have to take off from Wuhan when it carries a biohazard? Ye think (that may be the problem) a sample of nasty stuff cannot be transported to a balloon release site better accomodated to reach the US?

Of all the incredibly dumb Jim Jordan hearings we are about to see, I predict this one will be the most Jim Jordanist of them all. That week, I will be playing all my old school board meeting clips with the threats, insanity and intimidation from these so-called “parents.”

I guess it will boil down to a handfull of domestic terrorist threats (cause only that would fall into the competence of the FBI), and (if details were to become public) will be show them to be part of the rabid rwnj.
