George Santos Raised Money for Dogs. It's Unclear Where It All Went.

Michael Gold and Grace Ashford
Mon, February 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM GMT+1

NEW YORK — Money had come in from raffles and sales of gift baskets; a few pets had found new homes. All in all, the adoption charity event at a Pet Oasis store on Staten Island had been a success.

But then the charity’s leader made an odd request: He insisted that the store owner give him the proceeds in a check made out to his name, Anthony Devolder.

The owner refused and made the check payable to the charity, Friends of Pets United. Days later, when he looked at his bank records, he noticed that the check had been altered: The charity’s name had been blotted out. “When it cashed, it was crossed out, and it had Anthony Devolder written on it,” said the owner, Daniel Avissato.

Just spoke with Rep George Santos (R-NY) who insists neither a House Ethics Cmte probe nor the caravan of his constituents arriving here today to request his removal are “a concern” or “a distraction”… and says he’s not bothered by fellow NY GOP members saying he should be gone

Those constituents will canvass the Hill, we’re told. And will join some of Santos’s New York Congressional colleagues at news conference here shortly. Standby

CNN

In the fall of 2020, then-New York Rep. Lee Zeldin’s campaign submitted a report to federal regulators with a series of unusual expenses: 21 payments on a single day of exactly $199.99 each. The outlays – each just one penny below the dollar figure above which campaigns are required to keep receipts – all went to anonymous recipients.

It’s a pattern that has emerged recently in the filings of another New York Republican politician: Embattled freshman Rep. George Santos.

The Zeldin and Santos congressional campaigns had one more thing in common: They shared a treasurer, Nancy Marks.

The Long Island-based consultant is now in the spotlight as Santos faces multiple investigations over his finances and repeated lies about his resume and biography.

Embattled GOP Representative George Santos is the focus of a House Ethics Committee investigation, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy confirmed on Tuesday.

Asked if the committee is formally launching a probe into Santos, McCarthy told reporters on Capitol Hill, "Yes."

The speaker added, "Ethics is moving through, and if Ethics finds something, we'll take action."

While it has been reported that the Ethics Committee was looking into some of the multiple allegations against the freshman congressman from New York, there was no announcement or confirmation of an official investigation until now.

Hey
@MittRomney
just a reminder that you will NEVER be PRESIDENT!

Rep. George Santos describes, to me, his exchange with Sen. Mitt Romney during the State of the Union tonight:

Mitt: You don’t belong here.

Santos: Go tell that to the 142K that voted for me.

Mitt: You’re an ass.

Santos: You’re a much bigger asshole.

Not a fan of either of these guys, but I'd take a hundred Romneys over a quarter of a Santos with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.

RWNJ radio this morning reported breathlessly that there is no reason for Santos to resign or be removed until Biden steps down for all the far worse lies that he has told.

Le sigh.

Typical cheap stunt by Romney to position himself as better than the MAGA mob, without risking or accomplishing a thing.

He's a swine.

No, George. No one voted for you. They voted for the fictitious persona that you created out of whole cloth.

It was a clear-cut case of "bait and switch". The voters in your district voted for a rather impressive guy. They got you instead.

Kitara still hasn't explained why he let Kyrsten Sinema wear that yellow monstrosity, when I had it sent to him for him to wear.

This isn't rocket surgery. I send you a dress that is going to make you look simply stunning, to the point where the next day nobody is talking about anything else, you don't hand off the dress to some idiot bimbo from Arizona who looks like some kinda grumpy flying banana in it! :fingerwag:
