A Northern Flicker decided to drum on our metal chimney in honor of spring’s arrival.

In my old house when I lived in a real neighborhood with actual neighbors I had one who had a bird take a fancy to drumming the tin bit of his chimney. He was sooooo pissed at that damn bird and I'd often see him from my bedroom window outside at the crack of dawn in his boxer shorts and a tee shirt cussing a blue streak and throwing rocks at that damn bird!

Nice. We see them from time to time.

A pileated woodpecker. Was that around here, or was he up north somewhere?

You're right about his sense and his eye. Technical details take time to figure out with each camera and birds are really annoying about posing in areas lacking the best lighting. Somebody should complain to those feathered ones.

Very nice. We have one that visits close by, I hear him a few times a week. We have a downy that loves one of my mother's live oak trees, it's full of juicy bugs apparently. He also likes her red maple in the front yard, I see hm on the lower trunk of that tree a couple times each week. Woodpeckers are so cool.
There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality.

Find your suggested state bird.
https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/a-mo ... ds-part-1/
A Modest Proposal: Can EBird Help Choose Better State Birds? [Part 1]
We love cardinals, mockingbirds, and meadowlarks, too—but do these 3 species have to represent 18 separate states? We turned to eBird to find alternative state birds with data to back them up.

State birds are meant to pay tribute to local wildlife while inspiring people to get to know their avian neighbors. But for birders, some of the official state and provincial birds are a bit, say, uninspiring—and there’s an amazing amount of overlap. Only 20 out of 50 states have unique state birds. Seven states share the Northern Cardinal, six claim Western Meadowlark, and five honor Northern Mockingbird. Even among the unique state birds, there are exotic species (such as Ring-necked Pheasant of South Dakota) and domestic chickens (like the Rhode Island Red).

A birder might ask: With more than 700 native bird species to choose from, is the current selection of state birds really the best that our societies can come up with? (In fact, Nick Lund, aka “The Birdist,” tackled just this question in a hilarious 2013 post State Birds: What They Should Be on his blog.)

A Thought Experiment, With EBird Data

As it happens, the eBird Status and Trends project provides a great, scientifically grounded basis for finding unique connections between states and the birds that live there. Based on hundreds of millions of citizen-science records, as well as sophisticated computer models that use land-cover data from satellites, the eBird Status and Trends project can estimate how much of a bird species’ global population occurs in each state or province at a given time of year.

Earlier today, I think I was watching sparrow sex (and foreplay). Then another male showed up, and I was watching the Jerry Springer Show.

It's Plover-palooza at Montrose bird sanctuary.

Imani (son of Monty and Rose) and two new, unbanded birds were spotted at the beach today.

Sorry for the background noise and bouncing of the camera. I live near a major road and also a mile from a major hospital so sirens are common. I was also using a fair amount of zoom without a tripod (which happen to be sitting next to me).

Pro-tip, if you record from inside a window, turn down the TV. Yes, that would be The Last Jedi as background music.

Still, I love watching our local house finches sing away. They have lots to say.

While working away, I glanced out the window and saw some crows flying around and angry at something. It did not take long to find the focus of their anger.
