If Fitton was pulling a Klayman, i.e., using the courthouse to tout something, Fitton would have been, well, touting.
But it appears Fitton was mum, which further suggests Fitton received a very special invitation (i.e., a subpoena) to appear.

"Heavily" is relative; yes, Fitton did jibber jabber about the 2020 election, but I don't recall how close he was to that inner circle in 2020-2021. (But closer than Klayman. )
Fitton, on the other hand, was heavily involved in the Mar-a-Lago documents affair, which also is part of Smith's portfolio.
