Trump has come in second to Nikki Haley in the Washington DC primary.

Haley will win DC GOP primary, CNN projects
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will win the Republican presidential primary in Washington, DC, CNN projects, after three days of voting in the party’s only capital polling location – a downtown hotel.

Haley’s victory – her first of the primary – comes on the eve of what is expected to be a decisive week in the GOP primary, as she attempts one last stand as the race turns national. Former President Donald Trump has dominated every other early nominating contest and is poised to rack up more delegates on Super Tuesday.

Haley’s victory, though, did not come as a major surprise. Many in Washington believed the District represented her best, and perhaps only, chance to win a primary. Trump’s hold on the capital’s GOP, which counts roughly 22,000 registered voters, has never quite reflected his dominance across the country. Trump won the primary in 2020, running uncontested, but finished third in the 2016 cycle. Haley held an event on Friday with local GOP leaders, a clear sign of optimism.

Republicans will mostly forget about Washington now, at least in the coming general election. Biden won it in 2020 with more than 92% of the vote. The District has never supported a Republican presidential candidate. The GOP’s high-water mark came in 1972, when Richard Nixon managed a little more than 21% during a landslide reelection.

Trump tells Fox News: ‘Get rid of Karl Rove’

https://thehill.com/homenews/media/4510 ... press.coop
Former President Trump on Tuesday implored Fox News to stop putting Karl Rove, a former top aide to President George W. Bush and a longtime political commentator, on its air.

In a Truth Social post, Trump also blasted political commentator Marc Thiessen, who frequently appears on Fox, calling him a “RINO Bush apologist.”

“He was wrong about me in 2016, and in 2020 I got more votes than any sitting President in history,” the former president said, then turning his ire on Rove.

“My record on Endorsements is unmatched by anyone, EVER! Put on people who understand what is going on in politics…And while you’re at it, GET RID OF KARL ROVE!!!” Trump wrote.

The former president’s criticism came after a segment that aired on Fox News earlier on Tuesday, which was highlighted by Mediate, during which Thiessen said, “The only person who’s less popular than Joe Biden is Donald Trump.”

Donald Trump reportedly meets with Elon Musk amid fundraising push
The meeting in Palm Beach, Florida – reported on by the New York Times – comes as Trump trails president Joe Biden in fundraising

Guardian staff and agencies
Wed 6 Mar 2024 05.46 CET

Donald Trump met with billionaire Elon Musk in Florida over the weekend as the former Republican president seeks a major cash infusion for his re-election campaign, The New York Times reported.

According to the Times, Trump met with Musk – one of the world’s richest people – and a number of wealthy Republican donors on Sunday and hopes to have a one-on-one discussion soon with Musk, the CEO of both Tesla Inc and SpaceX, and the owner-executive chairman of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Neither Musk nor Trump’s campaign immediately responded to requests for comment from the Reuters news agency.

Trump, whose personal fortune took recent hits from judgments against him in a New York civil fraud case and a separate defamation trial, is aiming to line up additional major contributors to his campaign for president, the Times said.

Musk has not said whether he plans to back Trump financially, but the South African-born billionaire entrepreneur has suggested in social media posts that he is opposed to incumbent Joe Biden – who defeated Trump in 2020 – winning a second term in November.

Musk has long sought to cast himself as politically independent but has previously stated that he voted for Biden in 2020. Since then however, he has criticised the president and clashed with his administration

In November, the White House labelled as “abhorrent” a tweet sent by Musk that was said to show indifference antisemitism. In December, Musk’s mother accused the president of standing in the way of the billionaire’s plans to make the world a better place.

Last year Musk said that he would not vote for Biden again and – according to the Times report – he has made clear that defeating the president is a priority.

Donald Trump Potentially Being Briefed on US Intelligence Raises Eyebrows

Ahead of Super Tuesday results, the possibility of Donald Trump becoming the GOP presidential nominee has sparked speculation the former president will be briefed on U.S. intelligence.

Trump has already begun cementing his position as the clear favorite to clinch the 2024 GOP nomination following resounding victories in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada and Michigan. However, Trump is currently facing four criminal indictments, two of which were brought at the federal level by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Special Counsel Jack Smith. One of these federal cases pertains to Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after leaving the White House, with prosecutors accusing him of illegally retaining documents with sensitive national security information, storing them in poor conditions, and refusing to cooperate when asked to return them.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges, claiming that he had a right to retain the materials and possessed a broad authority to declassify documents during his presidency. He has also accused all of the investigations against him of being politically motivated efforts to harm his presidential campaign.

On Tuesday, some have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to speculate that if Trump wins the Republican presidential nomination, he could be briefed on U.S intelligence.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a courtesy extended by the current president? As in, ain't gonna happen.

Biden revoked the former guys access to classified information early in 2021, so it may be wise to withhold for the time being.

Biden Bars Trump From Receiving Intelligence Briefings, Citing ‘Erratic Behavior’

President Biden said there was “no need” for former President Donald J. Trump to get the briefings, traditionally given to ex-presidents as a courtesy and to keep them informed if their advice is needed.

Also too remember that the former T administration withheld Bidens intelligence briefings after his election win for nearly two weeks.

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) took to social media to tell former President Trump to “eat dirt” after Trump called the United States a third-world country in his Super Tuesday victory speech.

“Trump just called America a ‘third world’ country.’ With all due respect (which is none), eat dirt scumbag,” Kinzinger posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “This is the best country on earth. You, are our biggest embarrassment and stain. But you’ll be over in a year.”

In a roughly 20-minute speech from his Mar-a-Lago estate after winning more than 10 primary contests, Trump highlighted a key talking point — border security and immigration — and likened the U.S. to a third-world country.
He argued that the United States is “in some ways … a third-world country,” referencing border security. He later added that “our country is dying,” Forbes reported.

Kinzinger, an outspoken critic of Trump, served on the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack before leaving office. He has warned of the danger Trump will pose if reelected and asserted that the former president does not care about the U.S. Constitution.

In a Wednesday appearance on CNN, Kinzinger acknowledged that Trump’s victory Tuesday is an “impressive political victory.” Still, he said he hates “to normalize” Trump’s wins, especially now that he is the only candidate lined up to take the GOP’s nomination.
