Democrat Schuyler VanValkenburg won a critical seat in Virginia’s state Senate on Tuesday, unseating an incumbent Republican and buoying his party’s bid to maintain control of the chamber and blunt GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s conservative agenda.

Texas voters supporting property tax cuts and infrastructure spending, but opposing later retirement for judges

https://www.texastribune.org/2023/11/07 ... n-results/
Property tax cuts, a raise for retired teachers and billions in investments in infrastructure, research, tech and energy appeared headed for passage as voters showed their approval for more than a dozen constitutional amendments, according to early returns on Tuesday night.

But a measure to allow judges to retire at a later age appeared to be going down, with barely over one-third of Texans voting for it.

And a few others — including a property tax exemption for biomedical inventory and equipment from property taxes, were passing by only slim margins.

Voters weighed 14 constitutional amendments totaling up to $20 billion and appeared ready to approve 13 of them.

Democrat Gabe Amo won a special congressional election in Rhode Island on Tuesday, NBC News projects, defeating Republican Gerry Leonard to become the first person of color elected to represent his state in Congress.

The special election was held to replace former Rep. David Cicilline, a Democrat who stepped down this year to take a job running Rhode Island's largest philanthropic organization.

Democrat flips deep-red New Jersey Assembly seat in upset

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4 ... press.coop
Democrats have successfully flipped a seat in New Jersey’s General Assembly in a a deep-red district that has not elected a Democratic legislator in three decades.

Decision Desk HQ projects that Democrat Avi Schnall has won a seat in the assembly, unseating incumbent Republican Assemblyman Ned Thomson. Voters in each New Jersey legislative district choose two assembly members to represent them, so the contest was a four-way race featuring two Democrats and two Republicans.

Virginia Democrats keep control of state Senate

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4 ... press.coop
Democrats maintained control of Virginia’s Senate on Tuesday, according to results from Decision Desk HQ, fending off challenges from Republicans throughout the commonwealth.

Going into Tuesday’s elections, Democrats held a narrow 22-17 majority in the state’s Senate.

The Democratic win in the state’s upper chamber is seen as an affirmation of the party’s messaging on hot button issues, especially abortion. Democrats spent much of the campaign hammering Republicans over the threat of a potential abortion ban under a Republican trifecta in Virginia.

Abortion rights advocates and Democrats argue that the results in Virginia likely point to a larger national trend of rejecting state abortion restrictions following the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year.

For Republicans, the Democrats’ win represents a rejection of the message championed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) and his endorsed candidates. Youngkin played a prominent role on the campaign trail this off-year cycle, with his PAC playing a key fundraising role. Additionally, the governor made several campaign appearances on the trail throughout the cycle. The governor even endorsed Republicans running in primaries earlier this year

New Jersey elects first openly LGBTQ woman to state legislature

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4 ... press.coop
New Jersey Democrat Luanne Peterpaul was projected to win her state House bid on Tuesday, according to Decision Desk HQ, becoming the first openly LGBTQ woman elected to the state legislature.

Peterpaul, a former county prosecutor and chair of the New Jersey LGBTQ rights organization Garden State Equality, secured about 28 percent of the vote Tuesday. Together with Democrat Margie Donlon, a physician and deputy mayor of Ocean Township, Peterpaul unseated Republicans Kim Eulner and Marilyn Piperno.

The race for New Jersey’s 11th district – the state’s district with Republican assembly members and a Democratic senator – was one of the most hotly contested this year. It was also one of the most expensive races in state history, with Democrats pouring millions into flipping the district.

Democrat Daniel McCaffery wins Pennsylvania Supreme Court race

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4 ... press.coop
Democrat Daniel McCaffery is projected to win the vacant seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, according to Decision Desk HQ, giving Democrats a 5-2 majority on the state’s high court.

McCaffery, a Superior Court judge, won the election for the state Supreme Court seat against Republican Carolyn Carluccio, the president judge on the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas. The two were vying for an open seat that was vacated after Chief Justice Max Baer, a Democrat, died last year.

Baer’s presence on the court gave Democrats a 5-2 majority, but the vacancy brought partisan control to 4-2 Democratic control.

Virginia Democrats win full control of statehouse, dealing blow to GOP ahead of 2024

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4 ... press.coop
Virginia Democrats are projected to win control of both of the state’s legislature bodies, according to Decision Desk HQ, dealing a major blow to Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s agenda for the remainder of his term.

Democrats won control of the House of Delegates and maintained their grip on the state Senate. Tuesday’s election results mark a reversal from two years ago, when Youngkin was elected governor and Republicans won control of the House of Delegates.

Various Democratic figures jumped into the campaign. President Biden issued endorsements last week, while former President Obama recorded robocalls in various districts. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) also made the trip to Virginia to campaign alongside a number of candidates.

Democrats in competitive races repeatedly hammered their GOP counterparts as “MAGA extremists” and warned that Republicans would move to pass an abortion ban in the state. The Democratic victory makes it highly unlikely that Youngkin’s endorsed 15 week ban with exceptions on abortion will pass through.

CHERRY ON TOP: 12:15AM EST: CNN PROJECTS DEMOCRATS FLIP HOUSE OF DELEGATES IN VIRGINIA

Glenn Youngkin wanted a trifecta. He was shellacked. Now Democrats have control of the Senate and House. Youngkin had a humiliating loss.

As Realist might say:

Georgia's Jeff Duncan on CNN said he had acid reflux and that the GOP will keep bumbling and stumbling and losing states Republicans shouldn't lose until they get rid of Donald T*****. Hope his clip ends up online, he was disgusted.

Meanwhile, even Kayleigh knows it's a disaster.

Trying to show I care & to support Lindell's Commandment: No Mail In Voting (for Republicans).

Tyler Bowyer @tylerbowyer 1h
Until we pay full time ballot chasing armies in key target states, we will lose by math that is completely possible to overcome with the proper amount of bodies

Quote Ashley Hayek @ashleyhayek 1h
Republicans failed to deliver the mail ballot vote

Carluccio had 144,630 mail ballots
McCaffery had 524,963 mail ballots – 3.6x the votes prior to election day!

So once again, despite the fact Carluccio delivered 861,214 votes on election day, it was not enough to overcome the left’s mail ballots

This isn't hard - GOP: #CHASETHEVOTE #Pennsylvania

Listen up, Tyler. Mike Lindell & Donald Trump have been abundantly clear: ABSOLUTELY NO MAIL-IN VOTING. In-person or nothing. The GOP is in good hands & @GOPChairwoman is a stellar leader. Lindell declared tonight that it was God’s Plan for Trump & the GOP to face defeat in 2020.

MAGA is ANGRY about Ronna Romney, it's so unfair. So I want to give her the support she deserves. She shouldn't change a thing.

We’re new(ish) to Page County, Virginia — we’ve had the cabin since 2013 but we’ve only lived out here full time since 2021. I had no idea who to vote for in the local election. Almost everyone runs as an independent. I didn’t see a table for the Democrats as I was going in, so I took a sample ballot from the Republican table and voted against every one of their recommended choices.

I think the Democrat running for the Virginia House in our district lost, But that’s OK - the Democrats still took it. We had about 53% voter turnout here in Page County - that’s only a little over 9,000 ballots. The local races were close - the Clerk of the Court won his seat by 14 votes in a four-way race. The Sherriff won his by about 350 votes. Other local races were similarly close. I’m glad about that because the Republican PACs spent a lot of money here in support of local races but the sheeple didn’t necessarily fall in line.

Virginia Democrat makes history as state’s first transgender senator

https://www.timesrecordnews.com/story/n ... 408643007/
Danica Roem became Virginia’s first, and the country’s second ever, openly transgender state senator. Roem won her race in northern Virginia by defeating Republican opponent Bill Woolf by about four points.

The former journalist entered politics in 2017, when she became the first transgender state legislator in Virginia. Having served three terms in the Virginia House of Delegates, Roem ran for a state Senate seat following statewide redistricting ahead of 2023.

I think Danica has been a good representative and her people know it. I do a lot of advocacy work for the LGBTQ community, so it's so exciting to see that the voters see that the work she does is more important that who she is. Which is an inspiration!

I have not seen raw numbers of how many voted compared to our last election, but at my precinct I'm usually in the #135-170 range of voters. I was #278 yesterday and went several hours earlier than I usually do. The last time I saw a line of any kind to vote was when Obama ran the first time. That's also the only other time I've ever waited in line. There were probably 12-15 people ahead of me yesterday,

I have no idea what was going on since the election commission apparently prints their own ballots.
