A prospective juror in the Trump Org trial was excused after telling a judge Trump made him so sick to his guts that serving in the trial would be unhealthy

Laura Italiano

  • A prospective juror in the trial against the Trump Org said the former president made him sick.
"I don't feel like it's a very healthy thing for me to be here," the man told a Manhattan judge.
He was excused from the high-profile state Supreme Court case.
A man summoned for jury duty in the New York criminal tax-fraud trial of former President Donald Trump's international real-estate company was excused by a judge Thursday after saying the former commander in chief made him sick to his guts.

The then-prospective juror, a middle-age man, told Justice Juan Manuel Merchan of the New York Supreme Court on day three of jury selection in the Manhattan trial that he had "strong feelings" about Trump that "turned into a very visceral feeling in my gut" overnight.

The man said he had not had feelings like that about the businessperson turned Republican politician in the two years since Trump was president.

Trump Org prosecutors reveal some of their own witnesses 'won't even talk to us' because they're pro-Trump

Laura Italiano

  • Opening statements in the Trump Organization tax-fraud trial are expected Monday in Manhattan.
During jury selection, prosecutors revealed two DA witnesses have stopped meeting with them.
At least three DA witnesses, including Trump Org's ex-controller and CFO, remain on Trump's payroll
.

At least three prosecution witnesses in the Trump Organization tax-fraud trial are still on the former president's payroll and two have stopped speaking with the Manhattan DA's office entirely, prosecutors have revealed in open court.

In fact, some are meeting instead with lawyers for Trump's company.

The shocking news — that the DA's case against Trump's company relies in part on multiple witnesses who are, as one prosecutor put it Thursday, "still working at the Trump Corporation, meeting with the Trump Corporation, and they won't meet with us" — came as jury selection wrapped on Friday.

That sounds like a real problem for the DA. I wonder how they'll handle that...

Isn't it probable that if those pro-Trump witnesses are dragged into court (I admire that's legally possible??) they will squeak "fifth amendment!" in response to every question?

Given who they work for, it is highly plausible that they have deeds they could self-incriminate about.

Prosecutors' first witness in the tax evasion trial of the Trump Organization has tested positive for COVID-19.
Jeffrey McConney, the company's longtime controller, tested positive while in court on Tuesday.
McConney coughed throughout his testimony Monday and Tuesday morning.

Not to drag this off-topic, but from what I'm reading about Covid in China right now, I figure, by January, we'll be right where we were two (three?) years ago.*

*I guess we'll see how good the vaccines really are, at least the ones available here.

Yeah, this story really struck me.
Oct 31 (Reuters) - Shanghai's Disney Resort abruptly suspended operations on Monday to comply with COVID-19 prevention measures, with all visitors at the time of the announcement directed to stay in the park until they return a negative test for the virus.

But hey, at least there's a tiny upside ;)
However, those awaiting their freedom at Shanghai Disney can console themselves with one positive: rides are continuing to operate for those trapped inside The Happiest Place on Earth.

Jury shown Weisselberg lease signed by Trump himself

Julia Shapero
Tue, November 1, 2022 at 11:01 PM·

Former President Trump signed the lease of an Upper West Side apartment used by former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg, prosecutors showed the jury at the company’s criminal tax fraud trial on Tuesday, Bloomberg reported.

The lease represents part of the prosecution’s efforts to show that the Trump Organization and its executives engaged in a years-long scheme to avoid taxes — one that was sanctioned by the highest echelons of the company, according to Bloomberg.

Weisselberg, the prosecution’s central witness, reportedly received a $6,500-a-month apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and $10,000 for moving fees from the Trump Organization.

The lease shown to jurors on Tuesday noted that the apartment was meant to be leased by Weisselberg or other company employees and was signed by Trump himself, Bloomberg reported.

Trump Org jury sees 1st evidence linking Donald Trump's Sharpie to alleged tax-dodge scheme

Laura Italiano
Wed, November 2, 2022 at 1:14 AM·
  • The Trump Organization tax-fraud trial is in its second week in a criminal courthouse in Manhattan.
Jurors on Tuesday saw the first evidence linking the alleged fraud to the very top of the company.
Donald and Eric Trump's signatures may refute defense claims that the scheme stopped with underlings.
Jurors in the Trump Organization criminal tax-fraud trial have seen the first evidence directly linking Donald Trump to the case, including key documents bearing the former president's distinctive Sharpie-scrawled signatures and initials.

This early prosecution breakthrough came Tuesday in the Manhattan courtroom where Trump's real-estate and golf resort empire — though not Trump himself — is on trial for allegedly helping its executives cheat on their income taxes.

Jurors were shown what the prosecution said and what a witness confirmed were Trump's signatures on some half-dozen important letters and payroll documents. It's evidence meant to soundly refute defense claims that the tax-dodge scheme stopped one rung down from the very top of the company, meaning just short of involving anyone named Trump.

The documents were introduced through the trial's first witness, Jeffrey McConney, who as Trump Organization's controller is responsible for its payroll and tax reporting.

It's pro forma Trump. It doesn't have to work. It just has to splash. It has to make noise.
