Diana Rigg was my first tv shero and I loved her in GOT. She got shit done.

My first tv crush was Ricky Ricardo, then Davy Jones of the Monkees. By the time I was a teenager, I'd gone back to my Hispanic crush roots and drooled over old guy (to me, I was 15ish) Ricardo Montalban. Even the name was sexy. I really hated the show and it's sappy lead-in The Love Boat, but just to hear RM talk was enough to make me swoon.

Don't get me started on Khan.

(my grandmother's crush was Cesar Romero (and after seeing him in Oceans 11, I understand why) so I guess the Latino attraction ran in the family despite Mom liking Rock Hudson. She had a hard time accepting he was gay, but she adapted and became very gay friendly in her later decades, both celebrating and lamenting that her favorite hairdresser was leaving but he was moving to a state where he could marry his long-time partner and she was happy for him.)

I also had a small crush on The Professor, Russell Johnson. He appeared at the 2nd MST3K comicon because they riffed This Island Earth (great movie BTW). I wanted to get his autograph but he turned out to be kind of a jerk, bitching about not wanting to be there in front of the fans. But Rex Reason was also there, still as handsome as ever, and very polite and friendly so I got his instead.

Mrs young crush is Neil Diamond. So much so, she kept a small alter ... er ... display ... dedicated to Diamond memorabilia. I think she was living out what she wasn't allowed to do as a teen. But, after several moves, it didn't come out of the box again, and languishes in the shed to this day. However, when he was still touring, we had to go to every one if he was within a hundred miles. And she wanted seats near the stage. She wanted to see his face up close, and was moving to every song. That all ended over a decade ago when his age was catching up to him, his voice wasn't what it used to be, and his moves were getting arthritic. She wanted the memory, not the man. It was her youth she wanted back.

I think we have all experienced that.

The show is Emergency.
The actor is Kevin Tighe.
Yep.

And, the show was at the infancy of EMTs and paramedics. Before that time period in the very early 70s, ambulances were just transport. The show, "Emergency", prompted many young people into the field. I would have gone that route when I got grown up, but my hearing was a disqualifier.. just as for military.

Yes to Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel. Before that Dawn Wells as Mary Ann. And before that Sheila James as Zelda Gilroy.

Never could understand why Dobie didn't see what a great girl she was. Smart, cute, devoted just great in almost every way.

Decades ago, my partner told me I looked like Emma Peel. I was quite flattered, though I didn't completely agree.

A family and an LGBT collective in south-east Spain are demanding answers and an apology after a 19-year-old gay woman who visited a gynaecologist over a menstrual condition was diagnosed with “homosexuality”.

On Monday the woman went to an appointment at the Reina Sofía hospital in the city of Murcia. After being examined she was given a piece of paper that included the line, “Current illness: homosexual”.

The woman’s mother told the online paper elDiario.es that the gynaecologist had asked her daughter whether he could include her sexual orientation in his report, and that she had consented – despite her surprise – as she thought at the time it might be relevant.

:snippity:

The mother and daughter brought the matter to the attention of the local LGBT collective, Galactyco, which has lodged a formal complaint with Murcia’s regional government, the regional health ministry, and the regional health service.

Jon Kent Finds His Identity in Superman: Son of Kal-El #5
Earth’s New Superman Comes out as Bisexual
Available at Comic Book Shops on November 9

On November 9th the life of Jon Kent, the Superman of Earth and son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, takes a bold new direction. "I've always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea,” said writer Tom Taylor. “Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics."

Just like his father before him, Jon Kent has fallen for a reporter. After initially striking up a friendship with reporter Jay Nakamura, he and Jon become romantically involved in the pages of SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #5 from writer Tom Taylor (DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL) and artist John Timms (HARLEY QUINN). Following a scene where Superman mentally and physically burns out from trying to save everyone that he can, Jay is there to care for the Man of Steel. “I'm incredibly honored to be working beside Tom on the SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL series showing Jon Kent tackling his complex modern life, while also saving the world from its greatest threats, villains and menaces,” said artist John Timms.

“We couldn’t be prouder to tell this important story from Tom Taylor and John Timms,” said DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Jim Lee. “We talk a lot about the power of the DC Multiverse in our storytelling and this is another incredible example. We can have Jon Kent exploring his identity in the comics as well as Jon Kent learning the secrets of his family on TV on Superman & Lois. They coexist in their own worlds and times, and our fans get to enjoy both simultaneously.” SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL takes place in the main continuity of the DC Multiverse. For more information on the Multiverse, visit dccomics.com.

SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #5 features a main cover (left) and inks by Timms, colors by Gabe Eltaeb (JUSTICE LEAGUE) and lettering by Dave Sharpe (BATGIRL). Variant covers were created by Travis Moore (NIGHTWING) & Tamra Bonvillain (WONDER WOMAN) and Inhyuk Lee (BATGIRLS). Faster than fate. As powerful as hope. Able to lift us all. For all his great power, Jon Kent can’t save everyone, but that won’t stop him from trying. How much can Earth’s new Superman do before this Man of Steel buckles? And when he does, who swoops in to save Superman? SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #1-3 are available now at participating digital retailers and comic book shops. SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #4 and #5 will be available on Tuesday, October 19 and Tuesday, November 9, respectively. Fans of Clark Kent can continue to follow his adventures in THE WARWORLD SAGA in ACTION COMICS #1036 available in comic book stores on Tuesday, October 26.

Superman Comes Out, as DC Comics Ushers In a New Man of Steel

Up, up and out of the closet!

The new Superman, Jonathan Kent — who is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane — will soon begin a romantic relationship with a male friend, DC Comics announced Monday. That same-sex relationship is just one of the ways that Jonathan Kent, who goes by Jon, is proving to be a different Superman than his famous father. Since his new series, Superman: Son of Kal-El, began in July, Jon has combated wildfires caused by climate change, thwarted a high school shooting and protested the deportation of refugees in Metropolis. “The idea of replacing Clark Kent with another straight white savior felt like a missed opportunity,” Tom Taylor, who writes the series, said in an interview. He said that a “new Superman had to have new fights — real world problems — that he could stand up to as one of the most powerful people in the world.”

The coming out of Superman, perhaps the most archetypal American superhero, is a notable moment even in an age when many comics have embraced diversity and are exploring pressing social issues. Batman’s sidekick, Robin, recently acknowledged romantic feelings for a male friend (not Dick Grayson — who was Batman’s partner for over four decades — but Tim Drake, a later replacement; there are multiple Robins just as there are multiple Supermen). And a new Aquaman comic stars a gay Black man who is positioned to become the title hero.

It has been a steady evolution for an industry that had moved to censor itself in a number of ways after “Seduction of the Innocent,” a 1954 book by the psychiatrist Fredric Wertham, raised concerns about sex, gore and violence and suggested a link between reading comics and juvenile delinquency. In one section, Wertham described Batman and Robin as “a wish dream of two homosexuals living together.” The book helped inspire congressional hearings and led to the creation in 1956 of the Comics Code Authority, in which the comics industry set standards on what comics could depict. The character of Batwoman was introduced that year as a love interest for the Caped Crusader. She eventually fell into obscurity, but was rebooted in 2006. (As part of her new back story, she leaves the military because she refuses to lie about being a lesbian.)

One of the earliest mainstream comics to feature gays or lesbians appeared in 1980. It was not a positive portrayal. In the story, Bruce Banner, the alter ego of Marvel’s Hulk, is at a Y.M.C.A, where two gay men try to rape him. Things had started to evolve by 1992, when Northstar, another Marvel hero, came out — an event that was praised in an editorial in The New York Times. “Mainstream culture will one day make its peace with gay Americans,” the editorial said. “When that time comes, Northstar’s revelation will be seen for what it is: a welcome indicator of social change.”

Collected comic books as a kid and had some great ones... sadly a garage flood wiped them out, was so upset. Might get these first 4 issues... they are on eBay and seems like prices are going up already. Not sure what the markets are like anymore with digital comics so common... but for this and the Robin book, might be fun just to have as a cultural touchstone.

A senior Biden health appointee who made history when she became the nation’s highest-ranking openly transgender official has also become its first openly transgender four-star officer.

Rachel Levine, the U.S. assistant secretary for health, was sworn in Tuesday as an admiral of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a 6,000-person force that responds to health crises on behalf of the federal government, including administering coronavirus vaccines and delivering care after hurricanes. Levine is also the organization’s first-ever female four-star admiral.

Hey, this is a really great listen! Got the audiobook of FULL SERVICE by Scotty Bowers from the library through Overdrive/Libby and it's excellent. Talked about it in July here https://thefogbow.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... ers#p34608

The book is on archive.org free: https://archive.org/details/FullService ... onelScotty and can even be downloaded, the PDF is https://archive.org/download/FullServic ... Scotty.pdf

It's an amazing story about Gay Hollywood from the 40's onward. Incredible how many names he names with receipts. From easy ones like Kate Hepburn to folks I had no idea about. From the gas station, he moved into bartending. The guy was so nice, he'd help with repairs, almost never said no to any request, and didn't take a cut from the sex, he just hooked people up. It's a hell of a story from a unique perspective. He even helped Kinsey with his research. He was more straight than gay, but bi, so there's a lot about the women he was with. He had sex with Edith Piaf alomst every night for a month when she went to LA to perform.

Hadn't really connected or forgot he passed in 2019, he was 96. So happy he was able to tell this story for history. Giving this four stars, it's an easy listen (or read) and a juicy inside look at some of the most famous folks on the planet. It also deals with how gays were treated, the harassment and issues, and how folks got together to get a straight LA District Attorney elected who promised to call the cops off (and did). Don't want too much away but whether for the history of LA, the entertainment industry, or the stars, it's a fun book.
Scotty Bowers Born George Albert Bowers July 1, 1923 Ottawa, Illinois, U.S. Died October 13, 2019 (aged 96)
His story was used in Ryan Murphy's Hollywood. Lots of fact-checkers are finding it accurate.
‘Hollywood’ Fact Check: Was a Gas Station Really the Front for a Hollywood Escort Service?
The genial Hollywood flesh-peddler in Ryan Murphy’s limited series is based on a real person whose claims met with some skepticism
Steve Pond | May 13, 2020 @ 1:00 AM

Ryan Murphy’s limited series “Hollywood” is a mixture of fiction and fact, with its fictional characters set against actual events and people in the movie industry during the years after World War II. And because of the way the Netflix limited series approaches its story, it can be tricky to tell the truth from the fantasy, particularly since the whole idea of “Hollywood” is to tell a story of what could have been, not what was. But that alternative history uses real history as a jumping-off point, so viewers are bound to wonder about some of the events and settings depicted in the miniseries — particularly the first few episodes, before the story veers into obvious invention.

One of the prime settings for the series is a Hollywood gas station run by a suave operator named Ernie West (Dylan McDermott). Ernie has hired an array of good-looking young men to not only pump gas, but also supply sexual services to both women and men who come into the station and say they’d like to go to “dreamland.” And the gas-station scenes are certain to get viewers asking if an escort service was really run out of a gas station that catered to the Hollywood crowd. The answer to that depends on whether or not you believe Scotty Bowers, who is clearly the model for the Ernie character.

Bowers was an Illinois-born former WWII serviceman who moved to Los Angeles after the war – and in his 2012 memoir, “Full Service,” and the 2017 documentary “Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood,” he said he launched what would be a 30-to-40-year career as a genial Tinseltown flesh-peddler when Walter Pidgeon came into a gas station where Bowers was working and offered him $20 if they could spend the afternoon together. A naked swim in Pidgeon’s Beverly Hills pool turned into a torrid sexual threesome with Pidgeon and a friend. For years after that, Bowers said, he did indeed run an escort service out of a gas station on Hollywood Blvd., supplying men to women, men to men, women to women and women to men. (He didn’t take a cut — money only passed between Scotty’s employees and his customers.) Bowers said the sexual encounters sometimes took place at the customers’ homes, sometimes in a trailer located in the back of the gas station, both of which are depicted in the miniseries,

“Over the years more Hollywood personalities secretly congregated at that little gas station than anywhere else in town,” Bowers wrote. “It was a scene that saw as much furious action as the busiest studio back lot. The place became a magnet for those in quest of carnal thrills and escapism of every kind. A cavalcade of movie stars and others were attracted to the station like the proverbial moth to a flame. I became the go-to guy in town for arranging whatever people desired. And everybody’s needs were met. Whatever folks wanted, I had it. I could make all their fantasies come true. No matter how outrageous or offbeat people’s tastes, I was the one who knew how to get them exactly what they were after. Straight, gay, or bi; male or female; young or old – I had something for everyone.”

Bowers’ book, which is full of gossip about the sexuality of long-dead icons like Cary Grant, Rock Hudson (a major character in “Hollywood”), Charles Laughton, Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, was greeted upon its publication with some skepticism, particularly for the way in which Bowers claims to have sex with or supplied sexual partners to so many famous people. But his stories have also been backed up by a number of people who were around Hollywood at the time. Several Hollywood biographies, including ones on Vivien Leigh and Katharine Hepburn, describe the Richfield station in more or less the same way Bowers does. Matt Tyrnauer, who directed “Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood,” said he found at least anecdotal confirmation for “almost everything” Bowers said. “It all adds up,” Tyrnauer told the New York Times. And Robert Hofler, a journalist whose book “The Man Who Invented Rock Hudson” chronicles decades of gay life in Hollywood, had many conversations with Bowers and found him credible. “Scotty knocked down more legends than he confirmed,” he said.

At Harvey Milk Navy Ship Christening, Nephew Tells How the Oiler Saved a Life

In August, 2016, then-Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced that a yet unbuilt Navy fuel-supply ship would be named for slain San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, a gay rights icon.

About 7,700 miles away from that Treasure Island ceremony, a 15-year-old Kuwaiti named Khalil heard the news.

As Milk’s nephew Stuart recounted Saturday at the huge ship’s christening in San Diego, the moment saved Khalil’s life.

“In Kuwait, it’s still illegal to be LGBT,” Stuart Milk told an audience at General Dynamics NASSCO, including Mabus, 73.

But fearing that coming out as gay would prompt his family to conduct an “honor killing,” Khalil planned his own suicide — “so that his parents did not have to go through the trouble of killing him,” Milk said.

After hearing about the ship being named for Milk, though, Khalil wrote the Harvey Milk Foundation that Stuart co-founded and said: “I’m sitting here in the port in Kuwait, waiting for the … Harvey Milk to come. I have put aside my plan of suicide and I think I have a future.”

Hey, is this true?
Log Cabin Republicans claim gays “love” Melania Trump in painful video
Log Cabin presented Trump with its Spirit of Lincoln Award and claimed she was a "champion" for LGBTQ rights
By Rhuaridh Marr on November 9, 2021 @rhuaridh

Gay conservative organization Log Cabin Republicans has released a truly bizarre video in which they claim that gay people “love” Melania Trump. The former First Lady was the guest of honor at the group’s annual Spirit of Lincoln Gala, this year held at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club on Nov. 6. Melania Trump was presented with the “Spirit of Lincoln” award, honoring her for exemplifying a “commitment to enhancing personal freedom, encouraging individual responsibility, and ensuring equality under the law for all Americans,” per Log Cabin.

In a truly bizarre video accompanying the award, gay conservatives gushed over Trump’s time in the White House and applauded her for being “the first Republican first lady to ever support our community.” Leading the praise was Richard Grenell, longtime Trump lackey and former ambassador to Germany, who claimed, “From the moment I met first lady Melania Trump at the beginning of the Trump administration, I knew our community had an advocate.” Grenell added: “I’m not so sure where she got her passion for equality, but it was there, and it was real. Maybe it’s because she’s the most international first lady we’ve ever had? She speaks so many languages, understands so many cultures, appreciates diversity.”

Others piled on the praise, including David Leatherwood, executive director for Log Cabin Republicans of Tampa, who made an extremely bold claim. “Let’s be honest, the gays love First Lady Melania Trump,” Leatherwood said, before adding the equally bold claim that “we love President Trump too.” Former Log Cabin leader Gregory T. Angelo opted to focus on Trump’s physical appearance, rather than anything she’d accomplished for LGBTQ rights, saying, “She’s smart, she’s fashionable, she’s stylish. She’s not just one of the most, but the most fashionable First Lady in the history of the United States,” he added. Angelo was one of many who focused on Trump’s fashion, with video contributors claiming they were “gobsmacked” by her choices and that the “whole world” would “wake up to see what she was wearing next.”

Leatherwood, who apparently lived in an alternate reality between 2017 and 2021, thanked Trump for being a “fierce and outspoken ally for our community.” Others called her a “champion” inside the White House and someone who “believed in human rights and equality.” Last night, Log Cabin Republicans presented First Lady @MELANIATRUMP with our annual Spirit of Lincoln Award at Mar-a-Lago for her dedication to our principles.

Watch LGBT conservatives explain why the First Lady is a champion and inspiration to our community.
Thank you! ❤️ pic.twitter.com/pP3RVarDLH
— Log Cabin Republicans (@LogCabinGOP) November 7, 2021

Unfortunately, the facts don’t bear that out. During the four years of her husband’s term in office, Trump’s single biggest accomplishment on LGBTQ rights was trying and failing to light the White House in rainbow colors during Pride Month last year. (Her efforts were reportedly slapped down by Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows.) Melania Trump also remained silent while her husband’s administration attacked LGBTQ rights more than 180 times in four years, including banning transgender people from the military, allowing homeless shelters to turn away transgender people, defending the firing of gay teachers for their sexuality, trying to block the citizenship of children of gay couples, and trying to eliminate health care protections for LGBTQ people during a global health pandemic.

The Trump administration’s actions were so anti-LGBTQ that the bipartisan U.S. Commission on Civil Rights declared that Trump had “blatantly and deliberately” targeted LGBTQ people during his presidency. One member of the commission stated that Trump was “undoing decades of civil and human rights progress.” Oh, and Trump’s own niece, out lesbian Mary Trump, said that LGBTQ people make him “uncomfortable.” Melania Trump’s response to all of this? Claiming she was “shocked” to hear that people think her husband is anti-gay. “I was shocked to discover that some of these powerful people have tried to paint my husband as anti-gay or against equality,” Trump said in a Log Cabin video last year. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”

Over the years, the @LogCabinGOP & @RichardGrenell have been pivotal in uniting people & taking a stand against bullies and labels. Thank you for honoring my work w the Spirit of Lincoln Award. It was an honor to join you to celebrate your accomplishments! pic.twitter.com/eAFIJFjlBJ

If Barron comes out, he'll be lucky to have such tolerant parents. Another article about Melania, sure shows why gays love her so much: Related: Gay Melania Trump staffer was fired for having a “lively Grindr account,” tell-all book claims. https://www.metroweekly.com/2021/10/gay ... ok-claims/

My crush was Dr Kildare, Richard Chamberlain. I’d dream of having a minor medical problem which he would cure just by walking into the room.

Also, does it count as a crush if you wanted to BE that person? Dianna Rigg. I wore my go-go boots and short mod skirts and slunk around pretending to be a spy when I was what 12? 13?

ALL of the above are okay. Richard Chamberlain is dreamy!!!!! Major crush here. I didn't even think of medical procedures. Chance meetings were all I dreamed up.

I still want to look like Diana Rigg!

Diana Rigg was the greatest! She was not only a brilliant actress but also a really nice lady. She drove me home in London one night (with Julia MacKenzie). The Avengers theme is still my ringtone :P Here are all the openings (from Season 4 has the main theme and Diana's cool outfits), still one of our favorite shows of all time.

Here's a nice scene with Edith Massey:

She was amazing and had such a varied career, and was just all around incredible. She was a true loss.

Diana... or Edie? (runs away)

Here's a fun half-hour interview with Diana about The Avengers:

And a 30 minute BBC4 look back at the show with the cast. I agree with the line at the top that just hearing the music can make you happy.

I'm a little late to the thread.

Just my arrogant opinion - I don't know if Melania is a friend to the gay community, but she'd make a helluva drag queen persona.

Here's a fun half-hour interview with Diana about The Avengers:
When I was in high school, I had the hots for Diana Rigg in the worst way. Emma Peel was just so cool, and hot, at the same time.

I think it is the first episode that Diana Rigg appeared in: she and Steed are in his apartment and he is opening christmas cards. He opens one and says "This one is from Mrs. Gale. I wonder what she's doing in Fort Knox".

They never explained what happened to Mrs. Gail, or how Steed came to meet and work with Mrs. Peel. When Diana left the series, they did an episode in which her husband, thought to be lost in the Amazon, returns and takes her away. That was the only time that Steed ever called her Emma.

Also too, does anyone one else remember an Avengers opening with a chessboard, or did I dream that?
