Was earlier reported in the Republicans behaving badly thread
Ohio GOP House candidate has misrepresented military service

By BRIAN SLODYSKO and JAMES LAPORTA
September 22, 2022
,
WASHINGTON (AP) — Campaigning for a northwestern Ohio congressional seat, Republican J.R. Majewski presents himself as an Air Force combat veteran who deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, once describing “tough” conditions including a lack of running water that forced him to go more than 40 days without a shower.

Military documents obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request tell a different story.

They indicate Majewski never deployed to Afghanistan but instead completed a six-month stint helping to load planes at an air base in Qatar, a longtime U.S. ally that is a safe distance from the fighting.

Majewski’s account of his time in the military is just one aspect of his biography that is suspect. His post-military career has been defined by exaggerations, conspiracy theories, talk of violent action against the U.S. government and occasional financial duress.

GOP mum, Majewski irate after AP story questions his characterization of military record

BY: NICK EVANS -
SEPTEMBER 26, 2022 5:00 AM

Republicans are holding their tongues after the Associated Press published a story indicating GOP congressional nominee J.R. Majewski exaggerated his service record. Majewski himself is lashing out at the AP, threatening to sue and insinuating they worked with his opponent U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-OH.

On the campaign trail Majewski has presented himself as combat veteran who deployed to Afghanistan. In reality, the AP reported, he spent the bulk of his active-duty career in Japan, before deploying in 2002 to an airbase in Qatar for six months.

That airbase provides support services throughout the Middle East, including Afghanistan. Part of Majewski’s job as a “passenger operations specialist” took him to airbases throughout the region to load and unload. But the AP reported his campaign didn’t initially address whether he ever traveled to Afghanistan. They further noted Majewski was not awarded a service medal for those who spent 30 days consecutively or 60 days non-consecutively in the country.

Republicans Yank Ads for Ohio House Candidate Who Lied About Military Record

AJ McDougall Breaking News Reporter
Published Sep. 22, 2022 8:12PM ET

House Republicans on Thursday withdrew an Ohio ad buy of close to $1 million originally designed to support a candidate who lied about his military record, including claims he’d deployed to Afghanistan in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The National Republican Congressional Committee yanked the rug out from under J.R. Majewski, praised by former President Donald Trump at a rally before the primary, in the wake of a damning Associated Press report that found he exaggerated his service. Sources told Politico that the committee had purchased—and on Thursday, abandoned—$960,000 in ads backing Majewski, a QAnon proponent who attended the Capitol insurrection. The move suggests the GOP has given up hope on what might have otherwise been an easy pickup during the elections, all but ensuring that Rep. Marcy Kaptur, the Democratic incumbent, whose victory was previously threatened by redistricting, will win the seat in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District.

Disagree with The Daily Beast's lazy MSM spin that the seat would have been an easy pickup, had Majewski not turned out to be a lying Q Anon nutcase. I'm just surprised that disqualifies him in the eyes of some portion of the Republican party.

And another lie about his military service -

Records contradict Majewski’s account of military punishment
Republican J.R. Majewski has centered his campaign for a competitive Ohio congressional seat around his biography as an Air Force veteran. But one of the big questions that has surfaced is why Majewski was told he could not reenlist in the Air Force after his initial four years were up.

Majewski’s campaign said last week that he was punished and demoted after getting in a “brawl” in an Air Force dormitory in 2001. Military records obtained since then by The Associated Press, however, offer a different account of the circumstances, which military legal experts say would have played a significant role in the decision to bar him from reenlisting. They indicate Majewski’s punishment and demotion were the result of him being stopped for driving drunk on a U.S. air base in Japan in September 2001.

:snippity:

The personnel records obtained by the AP make no mention of a fight. Instead, they state that Majewski was demoted for drunken driving at Kadena Air Base in Japan on Sept. 8, 2001. And rather than gain his rank back — as Majewski’s campaign said — the records indicated he continued to hold the rank of E-2, one notch above entry level, that he was demoted to for the rest of his active duty.

Ohio was a huge disappointment, but not a surprise. However, we picked up two House seats so we now have 5, out of 15. Better than the Rs wanted as they were hoping to gerrymander Ohio to a 13-2 margin.

Even though Tim Ryan didn't win, his campaign helped flip 2 House seats.

If there is justice, he'll replace some outgoing Cabinet secretary or similar high-level appointee at some point. He and Buttigieg are two of the most effective younger communicators the Democrats have on their bench and he needs to stay in public service if it's possible.
But the sunshine aye shall light the sky,
As round and round we run;
And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

That would be great. There's an axiom in Ohio politics that you have to run statewide once and lose, before you can get elected. I can see Tim serving in the Biden Administration, then coming back to run for Governor in 2026 when there's an open seat.
