Ol' Wifehorn wanted to elope. I flatly refused. Nope. ENN OH.

I said, first of all, your father only had one daughter, and that's you. He has been waiting all these years (we married late) to walk you down the aisle and give you away, and I am not having any part of cheating him out of it. Absolutely not. Y'all have some idea, I really adored my father-in-law even before we were married. But it was a different time, and it would have hurt him to miss the wedding.

But second of all, I gotta tell you, my mom has been carrying that damned wedding ring everywhere she and my dad ever lived, and putting it in safety deposit boxes in I don't even know how many different banks for forty freakin' years since my great-grandmother left it to me when I was a year old. Remember the ring, I finally called her on the phone when I was 41 and said, "Hay Momma, you still got that old thing?" (My great-grandma got married with the ring in 1898.)

And if she finds out that 1) I got married with that ring and 2) she wasn't there to see it with her own personal eyebones, she will never forgive you as long as she lives. She'll forgive me, I'm her oldest son, but she will NEVER EVER EVER EVER forgive you.

My next marriage, I might be able to elope.
