i suspect that there will be a slight delay while the FBI finished lifting all the fingerprints from the classified documents. Then a number of people without appropriate security clearance will have to sit down for some uncomfortable interviews. i think there will indeed be an indictment, several, in fact, but it’s going to take a while.

going back to this issue. let’s talk about the overall handling of classified material in Trumpworld.

my first question is how the hell did those hard copy documents wind up in Mal-A-Lardo in the first place? i know nothing about the nuts and bolts of the systems here, but I imagine that each copy is numbered and there is a tracking system that determines who has possession of what document, when it was created, who checked it out, when it was returned. I also imagine that the storage area was regularly inventoried and any discrepancies would have set off massive alarms.

Who in the Trump White House was responsible for doing this? why did those documents “slip through the cracks” as it were?

There are so many questions without good answers.

A Mercer County man threatened to murder FBI agents last week after the bureau's search of Donald Trump's Florida estate, saying "come and get me you piece of [expletive] feds" and "I am going to [expletive] slaughter you," according to a federal complaint filed Monday in Pittsburgh.

Adam Bies, 46, is charged in U.S. District Court with influencing, impeding or retaliating against federal law officers.

He is in U.S. custody and is set for an initial appearance hearing this afternoon before a federal magistrate judge.

I mean, what's the alternative? Wait and see if he follows through? I get you for sure, but the threat is in itself a crime. And a dangerous one in this climate at that.

It’s been a Really Long Time since I’ve handled classified material. I worked in the Radio Room at various Coast Guard installations, and here’s how we did it: A classified document came in, and it was my job to determine who locally should receive a copy. I made the requisite number of copies, and had a log book listing the original and each copy. I signed for the original, which went in the safe. I notified the recipients, and they came to the radio room to retrieve and sign the log book for their copies (I had to check my list of folks authorized to pick up classified docs for each unit), but they could only take the copy with them if it was not designated “SCI,” (which most were not because few CG units actually had SCIFs) and they knew how to draft them to allow them to leave the SCIF.

Like I said, it’s been a long time and it might be different now. But once a person authorized to pick up a classified document left my radio room, I had no control over what happened to it. There wasn’t a tracking number per se that I can recall, but there was a notation on the front page which units were authorized to have it. So if you worked at the Marine Safety Office, but the only authorized local recipient was the Coast Guard Cutter Schmidlap, you’d have some explaining to do (as would I).
