Coast To Coast AM: Genesis Of Conspiracy America?

Post by John Thomas8 »

I used to stay up to listen to this, wondering what new nutjob would call into Art's show.

I'm not sure it isn't the root of the current "conspiracy theory belief" as Art would air any and everything, especially if there were any verifiable facts to back up the assertions.

That's funny, I landed on that station the other night, channel surfing my pocket AM radio between news, weather, sports and classic rock. I like the little donk-donk in the intro music. As far as conspiracy theory goes, it's more benign, like I can't remember a word they said. Put me right to sleep.

Okay I’m not the only one who feels that CtoCAM was a precursor for conspiracy theory shows. It was more benign, and Art Bell (later George Noory) were more moderators of a callin show that offered a place for people to air their theories, without really taking a position one way or another.

It was also a precursor, (I feel), for “Welcome To Nightvale”

The show I remember wasn’t really political, more sci-fi, mythology etc.

One guest they had, “Madman Marcum”, was actually kind of a local celebrity after stealing power company transformers to try and build a time machine. He disappeared sometime over twenty years ago. I think Art Bell always held out hope he would appear in the future, hoping the guy didn’t actually get hurt.

What time frame are you talking about?

Above Top Secret used to carry InfoWars back in the day. 10 or 15 years ago maybe longer? InfoWars has been around for a long time.
Has everybody heard about the bird?

I loved Art Bell back in the day. George Noori was OK. He carried the banner, but he wasn't Art. I stopped listening by the year 2000 because even George was starting to get too whack for me.

I used to listen to Art Bell almost religiously. His show was a lot of fun and he handled his part perfectly.

I know the old-timers will remember but our own birther Ed “Bugs” Hale was on the show touting his killing of a Sasquatch. I found a link to some comments about it. Haven’t taken the time
To find the actual episodes yet.
