I saw him on stage when I took Estiveo's Mom to see him in Tru, which earned him his 2nd Tony award.

I was a guest with Hatch on an NPR show once. Talk of the Nation, I believe was the name of it. He was a big advocate for disability rights, or so he said, because his brother was blind. (And probably had a black friend) My interactions with him convinced me he was an elitist asshole.

His death was mentioned on the local news. What? Apparently, he was born and raised in Pittsburgh; got his Bachelors and law degrees here. Moved to Utah in 1969. I never had any idea. I'm glad he moved away. Was not a fan.

Edited to add:

He was born in Homestead, PA, right across the Monongahela River, from the city. He went to Brigham Young for his Bachelors, then returned to Pittsburgh and got his law degree at Pitt.

Not really important; I just didn't want to put inaccurate info here.

The Judds (and Billy Ray Cyrus, too) are from Greenup County, where my family is from. Ashley Judd is my celebrity crush.

I have cousins who were childhood friends with Billy Ray.

I do like how they framed her death. She died from mental illness. My own brother died from his schizophrenia. It’s a more human way of acknowledging their struggle.

For parents of children with major depression, it’s really hard to hear that the beast is still just as dangerous when one is 76.

I have heard, and I am experiencing, that it gets worse with age. We are dealing with major issues right now with a brother who is bipolar.

Had a bipolar SIL who passed some years ago. Mrs. V's mentally ill youngest brother passed last year. Mrs. V also has a mentally ill sister in law. I agree, things don't get better with age. :(

I think it gets more severe in old age because there aren't any older relatives around to remind the patient of good times; the patient is left with only negative memories in the absence of someone reminding them of uplifting memories.

Yeah, you have to consciously work on that, Forty.

When you think of a good memory, write it down and keep a list where you can add to it.

Your friends are dying off, it’s hard to make new ones especially in a pandemic, and if you are losing mobility, hearing, vision, etc., or have chronic pain, it’s damn hard to find life worth living anymore. If you lose your partner, good luck finding another one. And getting used to living alone for the first time in perhaps decades.

He was 83
