During a time of being distanced we can always stay connected in prayer. Since my words in talking while I am away don’t paint the full picture, here is some of what I do. Most of the reports have said that he was an equity partner, in other words, owner of some share of the firm. So he was getting annual partnership distributions from that, as well as getting some chance of appreciation for the value of the ownership stake over time. BT has about 700-750 lawyers, and depending on the percentage who are partners (let's say 100 to 150 are partners), he probably lost something like $500,000 to $1,000,000 per year in profit sharing on top of his direct salary. Reports said he was a partner since 2019, so he probably hadn't paid off the loan he took from the firm to buy his partnership stake (they don't give it to you outright). And that stake probably hadn't appreciated much in two years, so they bought it back from him for roughly what he paid for it.

But he's not going to cruise from BT to another similar Big Law firm and become a partner somewhere else in a year or two. He's going to be shoveling shit for the rest of his career as a marginal solo practitioner because of this brilliant move. He'll be lucky to have a practice defending drunk drivers and shoplifters because Google will remember this little disaster for the next 50 years and any law firm thinking of hiring him will come across it.

Wonder what his wife thinks of his brilliant career move. And what will his kids think when Daddy won't be able to pay for their private school next year?
