SPU board maintains decision to prohibit employees from same-sex sexual activity

Seattle Pacific University’s Board of Trustees decided on Monday to retain employee expectations regarding sexual contact, according to a statement released from by Board.

The current policy expects employees to refrain from sexual behavior that conflicts with the university’s understanding of Biblical standards, which includes cohabitation, extramarital sexual activity, and same-sex sexual activity.

According to SPU, because it’s a religious organization, the university can prefer current and future employees to hold certain beliefs, participate in certain religious observances and refrain from conduct based on the university’s beliefs.

Free Methodist pioneers founded the university in 1891, which maintains close relationships with local Free Methodist churches.

“We want the community of SPU to know that this was a thorough and prayerful deliberation,” said board chair Cedric Davis. “While this decision brings complex and heart-felt reactions, the Board made a decision that it believed was most in line with the university’s mission and Statement of Faith and chose to have SPU remain in communion with its founding denomination, the Free Methodist Church USA, as a core part of its historical identity as a Christian university.”

The board also acknowledged their decision may be met with disagreement, noting the topics of sexuality and identity are sources of controversy among Christians.

The decision does not affect students, who have their own standards of conduct.

While same-sex sexual activity is not prohibited among students, they are still prohibited from sexual activity outside of marriage, cohabitation and viewing or watching pornography.

The university confirmed with KIRO 7 three board members have resigned leading up to and after the decision not to change the university’s lifestyle policy.

Board Chairman Cedric Davis resigned on May 26. Board member Kevin Johnson left May 20 after finishing his three-year term.

Board member Denise Martinez resigned on May 19.

Protests over the board’s decision continued into Saturday as students take shifts on a sit-in at Demaray Hall.

Didn't even have to wade very far into the replies before I got to the one guy complaining that the Marines were no longer representing all Americans by taking a side in the cultural wars against Christian values.

And since I use my Twitter account only for lurking and reading, and once vowed that I would never post from it, I had to sit on my hands to keep from typing, "Just spitballin' here, but are you really meaning to say that all Americans have Christian values?"

If you think it's easy closing a browser window with just your nose because you're sitting on your hands, brothers and sisters, let me tell you it's not.

Multiple Tampa Bay Rays Players Refuse To Wear Pride Night Logos Citing Religious Reasons

“A lot of it comes down to faith, to like a faith-based decision,” Adam said. “So it’s a hard decision. Because ultimately we all said what we want is them to know that all are welcome and loved here. But when we put it on our bodies, I think a lot of guys decided that it’s just a lifestyle that maybe — not that they look down on anybody or think differently — it’s just that maybe we don’t want to encourage it if we believe in Jesus, who’s encouraged us to live a lifestyle that would abstain from that behavior, just like (Jesus) encourages me as a heterosexual male to abstain from sex outside of the confines of marriage. It’s no different.”

“It’s not judgmental. It’s not looking down,” he continued. “It’s just what we believe the lifestyle he’s encouraged us to live, for our good, not to withhold. But again, we love these men and women, we care about them, and we want them to feel safe and welcome here.”

I think real Jesus looks more interesting than the Westernized fake version. (Christians heads explode)

Two Weeks After Uvalde School Massacre, Texas GOP Vows Ban on... Taking Kids to Drag Shows
"Imagine a government that acted this fast to protect us from guns instead of drag queens."

JULIA CONLEY
June 7, 2022

Two weeks after a gunman armed with a semiautomatic rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition massacred 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, a Republican state lawmaker announced that he is taking action—against drag shows.

State Rep. Bryan Slaton said Monday he intends to file legislation "protecting kids from drag shows and other inappropriate displays" when the next legislative session begins.

While Republicans in the state and in Washington, D.C. have not been driven to make AR-15s and other semiautomatic weapons inaccessible to Americans after any of the more than 300 school shootings that have taken place since the Columbine High School attack in 1999—or other high-profile mass shootings in other settings—Slaton claimed to be so disturbed by photos of a child at a drag show in Dallas over the weekend that he saw no choice but to act.

"This is disgusting and dangerous. It can't be allowed to continue," Slaton tweeted. "My Republican colleagues and I will protect kids from these sickos."

Slaton's statement and flurry of tweets regarding the issue of "the sexualization that is happening across Texas" matched the urgency Democratic lawmakers and gun control advocates have reserved for calls to reinstate an assault weapons ban and require universal background checks for firearms sales.

"Two weeks after 19 kids were slaughtered in a Texas elementary school, Texas lawmakers are finally banning—checks notes—drag queens," tweeted Matt Bernstein, a content creator and LGBTQ+ rights advocate.

In related news, Texas has passed a law requiring 2 more seasons of Toddlers & Tiaras. The Texas Irony Meter Commission, which long ago required disconnecting of Texas' Irony Meters from the national grid because "You don't mess with Texas" could not be reached after the resultant explosion of Texas' sole irony meter array.

Throw in jail?
A bunch of paramilitary partisans just rushed a library full of children. A 'good guy with a gun' would have been more than reasonable if they shot first and asked questions later since that kind of action could quickly turn into a mass shooting.
