On September 7, President Biden and First Lady Biden will host former President Obama and former First Lady Obama for the unveiling of their official White House portraits.

Is this something that would have normally fallen into the duty of #45 or does the painting just take so long?

TFG did not have the grace to do it. And honestly, he would have used the occasion to do what he always does at every opportunity. Require his audience to allow him to bask in his own glory. It would have been a show of utter disrespect. So, it's probably best that he didn't do it.

I think also that it just takes that long to get the paintings done, though I've no idea why it would. I just remember being shocked some years ago when I heard about a different president getting ready to unveil the official portraits of a president and first lady who hadn't been in office immediately before him, but had been in office before the guy who had been his immediate predecessor. I just can't remember who it was. But, yeah, I was really surprised that it had taken more than 4 years to get the portraits done.

Guess "Star Wars" was too woke for them because the Skywalkers are the good "guys."* ("The Rise of Skywalker" was the third movie in the third trilogy.)

* Anakin perhaps somewhat flawed.

Thought this was the best thread for this.

“Once the world had Gorbachev and Mandela. Now we have Trump, Johnson and Truss”:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... -liz-truss

“It’s a deeply unfashionable idea. The “great man theory” of history seems terminally passé, the intellectual equivalent of a statue of a forgotten general on horseback. These days, we like to think our world is shaped not by individuals, heroic or otherwise, but by deep, underlying forces – that there is a tide of history that this man or that woman might ride for a while, but which is bound to surge ahead, regardless.”

I thought they were done when Trump was still in office but he noped out of hosting them. Correct me if I'm wrong but did he ever allow any ex President to stop in the White House? Aside from GHWB Funeral did any of the ex Presidents even come to DC publicly aside from Obama actually living there?

Not crystal clear but it seems like this article is saying Trump not only didn't invite Obama when it was done in time, but well..
Trump also flouted tradition when his staff moved the portraits of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush out of a busy hallway, to a small, rarely used dining room. They were put back at the time of Biden’s inauguration last year.
Article about the unveiling...

That's it, Trump's portrait is the backsplash for the janitor's room urinal and they can use some old porn to make an NFT for Barron's mother, then sell it to raise money to redo the Rose Garden.

Re: portraits - could be - I was just going off an old memory

As for the rest, I don't think he ever did let any of the other FPOTUS' come by - or perhaps they just didn't want to visit the asshole sullying the office they once held...

Meidas Touch and The Lincoln Project should put together videos demonstrating the difference between Biden and Trump at these rallies and political speeches. And ask moderates which America do they want to live in. The kind that we will have when Trump and his supporters are elected to office or the kind where decent human beings are elected to office. It's not the died in the wool Democrat and Republican voters that make the difference, it's the Independents and the people who are on the fence and not loyal to either party that need to be swayed - they are the ones who decide which candidates win elections. And they need to be courted hard. The President's party almost always loses midterms, and this year it can be devastating. We will be looking at endless investigations of Biden and Clinton. And the media will lap it all up. Great ratings!

I see this said quite a bit, but these aren't the usual midterms. Roe upset the odds, and the hoarding of top secret documents could be the ultimate tippling point. Independents are showing signs of being thoroughly sick of tfg and the whole MAGA thing. And Biden has been better for Gen Z, or so I've read. I think we need to stop thinking of these as typical midterms with low expectations. But I like the overall idea of do you want to live in a whiny ass America with a party in control that visits Russia on Independence Day or one that offers real idea, real hope, and actually gets things done?

IMHO, Joe Biden is doing a great job as president, America is thriving again, and even if he hasn't solved every problem and done everything I'd wish, he has my support 100%. I like Dark Brandon, it's a brilliant way to counter the Let's go meme.

I didn't want him to run.
I didn't vote for him in the primary.
But he is kicking ass and chewing bubble gum. :boxing:

From over here the great thing about Joe Biden, albeit he is first and foremost a politician, is that he comes across (and I believe it) as a basically honest, thoroughly decent human being. If only there were more. :twocents:
