I hope he doesn't sleep a wink until he fights for women's basic rights to healthcare and fixes this shit. Fuck him. He did this.

ETA: All docs should do what this doctor did. Call the f*ckers who are their "representatives" each time a critical life decision must be made. It would be like Periods for Pence. The docs ask for the rep's advice based on the ridiculous law he voted for. Let them all lose sleep.

They just happened to find *one* R rep who realized (probably bc he has daughters?) that the bill he voted for will kill women. Most Rs who are strongly anti-choice feel, if the incubator woman dies, it's god's will and/or punishment for having sex while female.

True that, but at least the doctors would have the pleasure of repeatedly letting the legislators know the real life experiences of the doctors and the women.

The Florida judge who ruled that a 17 year old wasn’t mature enough to have an abortion, but was mature enough to have a baby, was ousted by voters yesterday.
Edit: The teen got a new hearing, and this judge’s decision was overruled, according to comments.

More U.S. women look to Mexico for medication abortions after Roe reversal
“We imagined this would happen, but not at the rate that it’s been happening,” one abortion rights activist in Mexico said.

Aug. 3, 2022, 10:24 PM CEST
By Daniella Silva

An increasing number of U.S. women who are unable to access abortion services in their states are looking to Mexico after the fall of Roe v. Wade, according to Mexican abortion rights activists.

The activists say hundreds have flooded abortion rights organizations across the border with phone calls and social media requests seeking access to abortion medication and help with the process.

“We imagined this would happen, but not at the rate that it’s been happening,” said Sandra Cardona, founder of Red Necesito Abortar, Spanish for "I Need to Abort Network," an abortion rights group in Monterrey, Mexico.

Before Roe was overturned, it had previously been more common for Mexican women who could afford it to cross the border to seek abortion services in the United States. But after Mexico decriminalized abortion in September 2021 and with recent abortion restrictions in some U.S. states, Mexican activist networks say they have seen a rise in calls from desperate American women.

“When the decision fell, that was like a loudspeaker,” Cardona said. She said previously five to seven women from the U.S. were reaching out to her clinic for help per week, but now that number has shot up to 70 to 100 a week.

“You have to see the fear this has generated in the population,” she said.

“They never say they want an abortion,” Cardona said of the women who call. Instead, she said, they say how many weeks along they are and ask, “Will there be a problem?”

The four Mexican abortion rights groups interviewed said while the majority of the calls come from Texas, they have increasingly seen women reaching out from other states as well, including Oklahoma, Ohio, Florida and from as far away as Idaho and Wisconsin.

Google workers demand change

So there is a substantial disconnect between Google's communications to its employees and its political spending. Now, a group of Google employees is fighting back. In a petition sent to Google executives earlier this month, a group of 650 Google employees demanded changes. The petition demands that Google stop supporting "politicians and any political organization…responsible for appointing the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade" or who otherwise infringe on "human rights issues."

The petition also calls for Google to extend its abortion-related travel benefit to contractors, institute "immediate user data privacy controls for all health-related activity," and fix "misleading search results related to abortion services by removing results for fake abortion providers."

Thus far, Google executives have not responded.

Michiganders Want To Vote On Abortion, But GOP Fascists Will Nip That Democracy In The Bud!

Here's a relatively stupid and cut-and-dried example of how Republicans in the United States are no longer an American political party, but rather an anti-American Christian extremist insurgency hellbent on destroying democracy any time it gets in the way of their unearned power. Always remember it's unearned. These white shithole people aren't the majority of anything, on earth or in heaven. And yet they want to impose their ignorance, their bigotry, their stupid religious beliefs on all the rest of us who don't want a fuckin' thing to do with it.

Well. Michigan voters wanted to vote on some abortion in November! You see, they have this bonkers undead 1931 abortion ban that was never repealed. It is not a thing Michiganders want. The law is currently blocked. The law needs to be pulverized to death with some kind of funny cartoon mallets like they have on "Looney Tunes" or something, or however it is you get rid of bad laws.

So a group called Reproductive Freedom For All collected signatures to get it on the ballot to amend the state constitution to ensure abortion remains legal. (That's one way to get rid of bad laws.) Indeed, they collected a record number of signatures. Michiganders really don't want this fucking abortion ban! And the elections bureau said yes, you have collected one gabillion (730,000) signatures, and this should be on the ballot.

At which point the Michigan Board of State Canvassers said fuck you, we are white Christian fascists and did we mention fuck you? Fuck you.

The vote on the four-member board was two to two, which sounds like a tie, except that the law says three out of four must agree to certify a ballot initiative. Two of the board members are Americans. The other two are members of the fascist insurgency. You already know who voted which way.

The spokesperson for the group that pushed the initiative sounds very "you had one job" about this, but is optimistic, because this is getting appealed to the state supreme court, which leans American.

The excuse they're using to keep it off the ballot? Part of the petition form had the proposed ballot language paragraphs formatted as Justified, and on a few lines the spaces between words are "too narrow."

Good news from Michigan!
Michigan judge rules 1931 law criminalizing most abortions is unconstitutional
The 1931 law criminalizing most abortions in Michigan violates the tenants of the state Constitution, Court of Claims Judge Elizabeth Gleicher ruled Wednesday.

The order is not the final say on abortion access in the state − opponents will certainly appeal to a higher court that has already undermined previous Gleicher rulings. But it is the first time a Michigan judge has weighed in on the constitutionality of abortion in the state since the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the national right to an abortion afforded through Roe v. Wade.

"Manifestly, criminalizing abortion will eliminate access to a mainstay healthcare service. For 50 years, Michiganders have freely exercised the right to safely control their health and their reproductive destinies by deciding when and whether to carry a pregnancy to term. Eliminating abortion access will force pregnant women to forgo control of the integrity of their own bodies, regardless of the effect on their health and lives," Gleicher wrote in the opinion.

Michigan Court of Claims Judge Elizabeth Gleicher ruled the 1931 law criminalizing most abortions violates the Michigan Constitution.
Gleicher determined that by enforcing the law, which criminalizes all abortions except those performed to save the life of a pregnant person, prosecutors would violate both the right to bodily integrity and equal protection afforded to people who are pregnant under the Michigan Constitution. :snippity:
https://www.freep.com/story/news/politi ... 872882007/

Gleicher had previously issued a preliminary injunction that a higher court ruled did not apply to other prosecutors, but another case that specifically targeted county prosecutors had a similar injunction that does apply statewide.

A tenant is someone who holds (from the Latin). So the tenants of the constitution are presumably the holdings. But according to Anna Maria Riezinger von Reitzenstein von Lettow-Vorbeck, state constitutions are merely franchise agreements between the Territorial Subcontractors and the Pope, or something like that. So that means that the tenants are Municipal U.S. Citizens, or something like that, and actual Americans who have got their correct paperwork from Big Lake Alaska have no obligations to the constitutions but only to the state assemblies that owe allegiance to King James Belcher, or something like that.

I no would replace it with tenets just to avoid confusion
Tenet - a principle or belief, especially one of the main principles of a religion or philosophy.
"the tenets of a democratic society"

Or “the tenets of the constitution”
