Beto O'Rourke @BetoORourke wrote: If you think it's crazy that there won't be any voters in the audience for tonight's debate, just wait until you hear that it's taking place in a theater that seats 1,000 people.

It'll be empty—no seats filled—because Abbott refuses to face those he's failed these last 8 years.

BTW, this is about Uvalde parents showing up. Abbott is afraid to face them. They aren't letting them in. Or anyone, for that matter.

Yeah, but that's a gift for Beto. If I were he, I'd only bring it up about 10 times - "Why is this big theater empty? Oh yeah, because you're the governor who's afraid to face his own citizens." :lol:
Out from under. :thumbsup:

The little thing that got me:

They debated from a sitting position. Obviously, Abbott needed that. And so Beto clearly agreed to sit.

Does anyone think if the positions were reversed the (R) would have agreed to sit and give up the psychological advantage of being perceived as the fit, healthy, able-bodied man in the room?

Does anyone even remotely think that Abbott would have been that honorable and courteous?

Because I sure as :shit: don't.

As round and round we run;
And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

Yes, that was the point. Were the situation reversed, the suspicion is he’d not have the courtesy to sit to remain equal to his seated opponent.

I thought this was common knowledge, but…

Abbott was struck by a tree while jogging in the River Oaks section of Houston (Megabucks Central) when he was 26 years old. He suffered spinal and internal organ injuries.

He sued the homeowner & the tree service company. Depending how ya adjust for inflation the settlement comes to 8-9 million tax free dollars.

The hypocrisy of Abbott lies in that when he was in the Tx Legislature he pushed for limits on just such awards, capping them at $750,000.

So, funny story.

Now, I have this colleague-but-no-longer-neighbor -- I'll call her 'Y' -- who is still assigned to London but hated our apartment and managed to argue for a change of housing and got moved this past week. Today, she came by to do a last pass of cleaning before tomorrow's turnover inspection of her old apartment. Y is a former North Carolinian turned adopted Texan, and as she is approaching the building today, not quite seeing me as I depart for lunch, she is proudly wearing a Beto hat. It just says 'Beto', no slogans or anything like that.

"Hey, Y," sez I.

"You know," sez Y, "I keep forgetting to tell you how much I love your cap." [It's the one in my avatar pic]

"Thanks, I like yours."

"Hah. Obviously, most of the locals here have no idea what it means."

"Sure, a Beto, it's one of those carnivorous goldfish, right?"

And she looks at me for a long moment, and we both *laugh*.

And we walked our separate ways.

Somewhere in sea of people that is London, there is at least one Beto cap floating through the crowds, is the takeaway here.
But the sunshine aye shall light the sky,
As round and round we run;
And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

President Biden, you’ve made progress but as long as this is happening in our country there is much more for you to do.
