Ol' Wifehorn and I are thinking of you, too also. She's been following all along with this, and she passes on her sympathies. You're showing an enormous amount of resilience, young lady.

When my mom passed, my dad almost felt a little guilty that he was almost happy about not having the burden on him anymore, because it was really, seriously hard for him to care for her, and he didn't want to feel any relief that she was gone.

But it was an incredible amount of work to care for her, and relief from the burden - even a burden of love - is a perfectly natural reaction. So we had to tell him, Dad, it's OK to be glad your life will be a little easier, and it doesn't mean you didn't take the best possible care of her, because you did.
The more I learn about this planet, the more improbable it all seems. :confuzzled:

I don't think relief is an unusual feeling after a death. It was my primary feeling when my mother died for a good while. I was so glad it was all over for her. Her last two years had been pure hell. I felt it to a much lesser degree when my husband died. Everything was very jumbled and raw, but his brain was so damaged, he would never have been the same person. He was gone, and never would have wanted what was ahead of him. So accept the relief; it means you really care.

Same here, my mother had been so sick for several years, in and out of the hospital and the nursing home, plus she lived in AZ and we kids lived in WA, making it all that harder. My brothers couldn't or wouldn't travel down there to spend time with her, so that's where all my vacation time went. We finally convinced her to move to an assisted living place in WA so we could be closer when she took a turn for the worse. I was there in the room when she told the doctor she was done and ready to go. Hard to take, but also a relief she wouldn't suffer further.

Slim, lots of virtual hugs coming your way :grouphug:

I went to practice this morning with the Calendar Girls dance troupe. As I've mentioned before, they raise $ to provide guide dogs for visually impaired veterans. They just started raising $ for dog #33, a yellow lab pup. They've already named him Dennis in honor of Hubs. I'll post a photo as soon as one of the ladies sends it to me.

I was digging through old photos to print for a Life Celebration TBD. I'd forgotten this one. Maybe I should blow it up into a small poster, if the pixels will allow.

The photo was taken outside a Paducah KY Harley shop because of course it was.

Sent some shillings over to the Calendar Girls. Before you, Slim, I had no idea how expensive it was to train a seeing eye dog.

Something TRL said on another thread reminded ed me that, Bc of the many colorful aliases used on this site, I often didn't recognize the names on the list of people who had donated to puppy Dennis online. I wasn't sure if they were fellow fogbowsers or people that Dennis knew.

So if I've neglected to thank you for your generous donation, my apologies and many, many thanks. This guide dog puppy tribute means the world to me.
