Sounds touristy.HAPPENING NOW: The jury trial of Jan. 6 defendant Dustin Thompson is underway, and it's fascinating. The prosecution is almost an afterthought since Thompson admits he did most of what they allege.
But he says he was induced to commit crimes by Trump. Will that persuade a jury?
USCP officer Ronald Lucarino testifying now that while he was pushing back against crowd that breached the building, "I did feel a few butts of guns...There were guns in people’s waistbands."

I didn't realize we have another trial underway today. Hope we get more updates from Kyle.

WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump supporter who admitted he stormed the Capitol and stole a bottle of liquor and a coat rack on Jan. 6 testified during his trial Wednesday that he was "following presidential orders."
Dustin Thompson — a married, college-educated, 38-year-old Ohio resident — told jurors he didn't have any strong male role models in his life and was hoping to gain the “respect” and “approval” of former President Donald Trump when he entered the Capitol amid the Jan. 6 riot.
Thompson, the third Jan. 6 defendant to face a jury, has adopted a very different defense strategy than the two others: trying to convince jurors that Trump is ultimately responsible for the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. His attorney told the jury Tuesday that "vulnerable" people like Thompson believed Trump's lies about a stolen election, and that Trump authorized the attack on the Capitol.

If it proves successful, I wonder how many others will switch their defense tactics.
May the bridges I burn light my way.

Closing arguments are set for today in Dustin Thompson's Jan. 6 trial. The 38-year-old college graduate is arguing that he was "following presidential orders."
But first, jurors are going to finish listening to the entirety of Trump's Jan. 6 speech.

Do jurors get extra pay to listen thru keep awake to the end?
Re: US v Dustin Thompson
DOJ is pointing out that Dustin Thompson testified that he arrived at the speech around 10 a.m. and heard Rudy's speech, when in fact he was in an Uber in Petworth.
"All of his testimony was a story, the story that he's presenting to you now after the fact," prosecutor argues.

Federal prosecutors urged a jury Thursday to reject a Jan. 6 defendant’s claim that Donald Trump caused him to breach the Capitol and help ransack the Senate parliamentarian’s office.
In closing arguments in the case of defendant Dustin Thompson, the Justice Department attorneys called Thompson’s argument a “sideshow” meant to whip up the jury’s anger at Trump rather than focus on the obvious violations of law that Thompson committed.
In Thompson’s closing argument, attorney Samuel Shamansky appealed to the jury to consider “human nature.” He reminded them that Thompson had spent nearly a year out of work before Jan. 6, isolated amid the pandemic and consuming a firehose of pro-Trump disinformation and propaganda.
Shamansky didn’t dispute the bulk of the factual case presented by prosecutors: Thompson entered the Capitol after Trump’s speech, joined a mob in ransacking the Senate parliamentarian’s office and stole a coat rack and bottle of liquor during the unrest. He stood by as rioters assaulted police in a Capitol tunnel and ran away from officers that evening when they approached him to ask about the coat rack.
Thompson’s wife also testified that she witnessed her husband become increasingly radicalized during Trump’s presidency, and that it became particularly acute when he became unemployed in March 2020.
