I didn't realize Albert Schweitzer was an organist on top of his many other accomplishments. He's actually got quite an extensive discography, and seems to have specialized in Bach with a few others thrown in for variety.
This is Schweitzer playing Toccata and Fugue in D minor, but that is not on 'my' record.
Of course, this piece is extremely well known, and I can pretty well hum along with it, but I am nowhere near knowledgeable enough to judge how accomplished he is. It kind of felt like there were a couple of 'stumbles' in the performance to me, but I dunno.

Thanks for this. As for the performance, I did find it somewhat ho-hum-ish. It came off as more academic than is my taste but that would be expected from somebody who was an academic and helped move toward the Organ Reform Movement of the mid-20th century. While that brought many good performance practices, it was also turned rather purist in some practice and organ building which made instruments lest flexible to to all types of repertoire.
I don't have time to explain all this now. Maybe I will do an "A box of whistles - the organ and its science" thread at a later point. For now, I will be sloppy and let Wikipedia have it:
Oh, she can float the notes and sing with such expression.

Hmmm. Wether tis nobler in the minds of men to show something old or, to suffer the slings and arrows of unknown sounds and play something new.
OK. Something (relatively) new then. Giant Sand started up about the same time I left the States for Aussieland. It looks like they spawned Calexico.
I'm not sure this video is the most representational of their sound, but I like it because there is a brief glance a sign that says "Ugly But Honest" - that's Clyde Wanslee's Used Car Yard, where I got my first car from.

I've probably posted this before, but it's been quite awhile.
For the end of the year, Spotify puts together a bunch of statistics about what you listen to and generates some Playlists based on the genres you've listened to the most that year. Each list has both tracks you listened to and ones their algorithm thinks you might like based on those. One of my genres is "Mideval Folk Music"
I was just listening to that list when a very special song popped up as one of those suggestions. It's a piece from the movie "Last of the Mohicans" called "Promentory" and is the song Mr. Gray and I used as the processional for our wedding.
Just to give you a bit of a mental picture, the church was candlelit with just enough low overhead lighting to make sure everyone could see where they were going, and my bridesmaids each came in carrying a small candle in a brass-and-glass candleholder. Instead of flowers, I also carried a candle holder that was a bit more elaborate. There are 2 places the music swells, the first was where Mr, Gray entered and the 2nd one was where my dad and I came in.

Okay. That's going to be the theme music to my healing.
I've been listening to the Classical station since I got home from the hospital just because it's been soothing and satisfying.

This blew me away. She crosses her hands to play this.

There was obviously much back-end production going on there -- but those ladies hit it. Funny, because some of them were not even born when the song was released.
