Heard this last night. Normally I don't much care for rap music but this is pretty decent. The theme and images are from a PC game called Frostpunk which is about keeping a city alive in the middle of an ice age. So ya, cool!

Enjoy.

If you watch this, you'll see Stipe does not participate in the interview part with David Letterman, but sat back behind on a chair.

Wow!

There is a song I really liked that is in that tempo and arrangement. It was popular on the local scene. But, It was 30+ years ago in a dive college bar.

I'm gonna blame my memory loss on the viral infection. Fair?

A great (long) thread on our education in classical music through classic cartoons from the golden age of animation.

This is brilliant!!

When I was 9, I was watching Sat morning cartoons. The classical music in Warner Brothers cartoons made me want to be "the person who chooses music for tv shows". I didn't go into a career in music, but I did minor in music (cello) in college.

Thanks so much, Estiveo!!

I remembered the song. No, it's not on youtube. Just a local act, one guy, one guitar, original. "forgot to bring bread"

The chorus was, "I'm starving, starving, starving and I need to fed. But baby, baby, baby you forgot to bring bread"

The little club is called "The Barking Spider". I'm not sure if it's still operating. It was in an expanded coach house behind one of the old mansions near Case University -- you'd never find it unless someone told/referred you. No signage. I hope they are still running.

That's sad. It was a primo spot for local acts and amateur/open-mic night performances. I loved that place.

Found the address. LOL

Loony Tunes helped my classical enjoyment, but my education came from my father [a marching band alum] who had a literal closet full of 4 track reel to reel tapes of classical music. Every Sunday as a kid the house stereo belonged to him, and symphonies would be played, he had a lot of opera, but my brother and I didn't get that often because mom had veto power over it [I'd later get to hear it with headphones]. One thing my mother didn't get veto power over, that she wanted, was marches, dad being a fan of Sousa [his main instrument being the Sousaphone].

If you're wondering, and I know you aren't, Saturdays were house cleaning day, and the stereo belonged to mom, which ment oldies from the 50s and 60s. I still say Elvis is overrated...

OMG. The Case University bought properties and just tore them down, including my beloved Barking Spider, and rebuilt. It was bound to happen cause everything around there is the University, but still.

My second favorite classical piece is not from my father's collection, but rather from a video game, do not let that dissuade you. When I become a Bond villain it will be my theme music...

In case you're wondering what my favorite piece is, and I know you're not once aging, well it's the Habanera from Carmen [a bit of a story behind the reason why]

And I can only present you Maria Callas to do it justice

Back in the 50's "The Lone Ranger" used a lot of classical music for its soundtrack beyond the "William Tell Overture" as the main title music. I recall "The Flying Dutchman Overture" and some other Wagner. Also Liszt's "Les Preludes".

Kudos to Bugs, al. That's a really difficult piece to play with only four fingers.

Oh, that violin part from the Overture to Tannhauser. That brings back memories from playing in the junior symphony, and not entirely positive ones. Two pieces stand out for beating me to bits when I was playing the violin in school, this one and the first violin part of Sabre Dance (part of the way through suddenly all muscles tense up and you can't seem to play the off-beat any more).
