Hubby sent this. He loves acapella.

Re: Music Free-for-all
Very nice, but to be nitpicky... That is not acapella. Generally, acapella is considered unaccompanied voices (no instruments). This one was accompanied.
Now, to be really musicology nitpicky, there is some debate whether acapella (i.e. in style of the chapel, more specifically Sistine Chapel) was actually unaccompanied. Some folks would argue that there is some evidence that shows instruments were sometimes used in the Sistine. Others say, but rules banned it but often, rules were made to ban a practice actually happening, not ban something that was not a problem. Over the centuries, the use of instruments would get out of hand, the church would crackdown, it would back off, and the, happen all over again. Same with using the styles of "popular music" in church. There really is nothing new in church music issues.
But back to where we started, for most folks, acapella means unaccompanied voices.
So here is acapella The Greatest Showman courtesy of BYU Vocal Point and friends. The percussion is one of the singers doing percussion beatbox syle.
And for some more acapella silliness.

Re: Music Free-for-all
Thanks for the correction and history. I was so focused on the voices I didn't hear the instrumentation. Hubby likes a true acapella singer who has singers join him via internet like the singers I posted.

Re: Music Free-for-all
Okay.. be that way..
Here is the Greatest Showman acapella with people joining though really not from the internet since it is all one guy. I suspect he did a smidge of engineering on that because a virtual recording of the same person sometimes creates a blend that is different than if it were different people (different timbres from different voices create harmonics distinct from the same timbre from the same voice). I did a tiny adjustment when I reused a couple of voices on a virtual O Come All Ye Faithful, to help it sound like more folks.

Bravissimo, N10! Loved them all and especially liked the bad dancing on the solo artist acapella performance!!!!

Two hours of pure genius. Somewhat oldie but goodie. See, good things really did happen even when the creep was in the White House.
There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality.

Re: Music Free-for-all
Awhile back in this thread I posted a few songs, such as the theme that I would have when I become a Bond villain, but I forgot this one. Again, not a classical piece per se, but close enough.
I've always had this weird premonition in my life that my death will not come quickly, that it would always be somewhat slow [thank joining the Corp infantry that made me think I'd bleed out on a battlefield some where to reinforce that], so when Death finally closes it's icy grip around me this will be the song that goes through my head as my last thoughts...

Proving you don't need 6 strings to play lead:

Re: Music Free-for-all
I can understand that. I sat in the first chair (i.e. concertmaster) of various orchestras growing up and I only had 4 strings.

I object. Madrigals are supposed to be a cappella - no piano.Frater I*I wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 12:42 am Awhile back in this thread I posted a few songs, such as the theme that I would have when I become a Bond villain, but I forgot this one. Again, not a classical piece per se, but close enough.

Re: Music Free-for-all
So, this is some kind of "Guitar Summit" is it?
Left Channel: Paco De Luca
Center: John McLaughlin
Right Channel: Al Di Meola
Certainly in the conversation as one of the greatest live albums ever.

Re: Music Free-for-all
A live version of "Mediterranean Garden" with all three players in Modena (the San Francisco album only had De Lucia and Di Meola playing on this).
Interesting trivia: The "Friday Night in San Francisco" cover lists the artists in the order: di Meola, McLaughlin, de Luca. The record label lists them as McLaughlin, di Meola, de Luca (in EVERY format, vinyl, cassette, and CD) . The above video lists them as deLuca, di Meola, McLaughlin.
I like a bit of friendly sharing the credits.
