The short version is that he is a controversial left wing British Politician. I always kind of liked him as he seems to be at least honest in what he stands for, even if I disagree with him. That said he seems to have a knack for picking the "wrong" side.

A long time ago Galloway came across as a charismatic “anti-establishment” politician but in a good way. Sadly he gradually became an embarrassing poseur, then a disgruntled asshole, and more recently a complete asshole. P.S. unlike some similar characters he is not unintelligent.
