If they really want to freak out, they should head across the street to the Spy Museum.

True story: the day I passed my assessment to join the Foreign Service and I got the briefing on how the security clearance process would work, the security folk then said "So, got any questions?" "Yeah, um, one of my best friends moved to the area a few years ago so we were going to celebrate today by going to the Spy Museum on a lark, since we're both big Cold War-era thriller movie buffs. Is this going to be a problem?" "No, we get asked that more than you'd think and you're fine."

So, my buddy (this is the one who, a year and a half later, while I was finally onboarded and in training at FSI, passed away over Thanksgiving weekend just a few hours after I picked him up at the airport following his return flight from visiting his family in Miami) and I decide on a lark to do the Spy Museum visit in Big Gamer Style. Being lifelong tabletop RPG guys since we were in short-pants (at the time, I was 47 and he was a few months shy of same, so between 35 and 40 years of gaming each), we took the challenge with which you get presented in the FIRST ROOM of the spy museum -- we each memorized the biographic details of one of the 'fake personae' they encourage you to adopt but about which, on a not-too-busy day, Museum staff will randomly challenge you as you wander the museum.

According to the gift shop manager on duty near the end, Roland and I were the only two people he could ever remember that could maintain character all the way through to the end. I mean, we didn't break, not once, not even a little. I still wear that as a badge of honor, and every late March, when the Facebook memories come up of our museum trip, I make a round of toasts to both Roland and to his fictitious self, Antonio Silva.

I was incorrect. But, no harm giving law enforcement a heads up.

Law enforcement has been very prepared for the convoy so far. This won't go for long.

There weren’t any arrests over the motorcyclist that I know of, and they haven’t been deterred from doing things like slowing traffic or doing doughnuts on the interstate.

Hagerstown and other areas are on a Tornado Watch. Looks like they are getting clipped by a small t-storm at the raceway. The more severe stuff is north.

DC area may only get scattered stuff but is in the 90s right now.

People's Convoy Too Busy Punching Each Other to Sneak Back Into Washington, D.C.
The "new minutemen" got distracted by infighting, hurling slurs and torturing animals, and couldn't manage to shut down D.C. as promised.

The People’s Convoy vowed to do more than just endlessly circle Washington D.C.’s Beltway in urine-soaked jeans when they returned to their base camp at Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland on Wednesday. But instead of somehow sneaking two dozen or so semi trucks into one of the most heavily monitored cities on Earth, members devolved into fist fights, animal abuse and accusations.

Washingtonians hoped they’d seen the last of the People’s Convoy when it was chased out of town in late March by rude hand gestures and a slow bicycle rider. Since leaving the capital, the Convoy has traveled far and wide, including to California — where they unknowingly cheered the passage of a bill they opposed because they didn’t understand the words lawmakers were saying — and Oregon, where members fired guns at kids throwing eggs and paint-filled balloons.

A line of about two dozen semis and 100 passenger vehicles formed around 4:30 in the afternoon Thursday, but there was no roll-out. Instead, we have... this: A mess of a livestream, where convoy members confront each other after one punches another in the face. The victim’s wife began livestreaming the argument immediately after the punch was thrown. On the stream, we hear people talk about a lot of truly messed-up stuff allegedly going on within the Convoy: A cat being hung from another member’s truck (the cat is apparently OK), sexual assault, and messages written in blood in front of a casino. As icing on the cake, a so-called “security” member calls the woman recording the stream a homophobic slur:

Many of the streamers have spent their hours on the road talking about how much love is felt between Convoy members thanks to their shared mission. But we’ve seen shootings, attacks, threats and rampant paranoia come out of the Convoy. With COVID-19 mandates falling all over the country and diesel prices breaking records, the pointlessness of this mess is becoming more and more apparent to everyone — save for the convoy members themselves.

This isn’t political activism. It’s an anger-filled cross-country vacation fueled by the worst vibes imaginable.

Umm ... ol' Wifehorn and I drove up to our nation's capital (OK, my dad's place in Bathysphere or wherever it is) and got here ready to battle the Convoy (by looking out the window at the Beltway, heroic actions I know), at precisely 2:25 p.m.

Literally FIVE MINUTES after we arrived, the Convoy quit like a bunch of quitting quitters, and ran away like little whiny crybabies.

They can declare victory all they want.

I declare WOO LICK.

A prosecutor told me, that's a lick (a hit) on the football field that makes the whole crowd go "WOO!"

Oh this ain't over! Sounds like most of the leaders are leaving but quite a few people are staying and are still planning to go into DC at some point. One guy says he just paid $1,300 out of his own pocket for porta-potties.

It appears a bunch are parked in the parking lot of a Home Depot only a couple of miles from my home. And no, I don't plan to run over there and introduce myself.

Edit to add: Apparently Santa is sticking around. He's trying to get people to stop bad-mouthing the leaders who are leaving.
