H & M had Frogmore as a grace and favour residence from the late Queen, the use of which was predicated upon the two of them doing 'royal' stuff, such as opening new markets, etc. Frogmore is part of the Crown Estate, so it can't be given away.

H & M demanded that Frogmore be renovated. Originally the government paid for the renovation. When H & M decided they didn't want to do being royal anymore and decamped to the United States, the adoring taxpayers demanded that the renovation money be repaid.

There's no point in allowing H & M to continue having Frogmore as a favour and grace residence since the possibility exists that the place might not ever be occupied by them in the future.

In the meantime, William and Kate would like to use the Royal Lodge. The solution? Send Andrew to Frogmore, have William and Kate move to the Royal Lodge.

A green energy company set up by King Charles was investigated for numerous health and safety breaches after the unauthorised leak of more than 1,000 tonnes of global-heating gases.

Methane, CO2 and traces of the toxic gas hydrogen sulphide were released after a gas-holder at the plant split open in 2020. The incident, which lasted for 38 days, was described as “significant” by the Environment Agency.

The plant in Dorset, JV Energen, was also investigated for breaches involving “flammable and toxic” substances. It is majority-owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, a hereditary estate that raises revenues for whoever is the male heir to the throne.

The duchy said in a statement: “The negative impact of the emissions associated with the leak, while regrettable, were completely immaterial compared with the positive impact of the provision of renewable energy.”

The plant is at Rainbarrow Farm, near Dorchester, on land belonging to the Duchy of Cornwall. Now owned by Prince William by right of his title of Duke of Cornwall, the duchy estate had for decades been overseen by his father.

JV Energen was opened in 2012 and hailed by Charles as a breakthrough in green energy production. It is a joint venture between four farmers and the duchy. The plant turns crops into gas and electricity, which are used in the local area, as well as to create fertilisers for local farms.

The Health and Safety Executive investigated the plant after the 2020 leak and issued a series of improvement notices under health and safety legislation, dangerous and explosive substances regulations and worker safety rules.

In December 2020, the HSE’s inspection found JV Energen had failed to protect its employees by neglecting to make a “suitable and sufficient assessment [of the] risks of fire, explosion, asphyxiation, toxic releases and potential over-pressurisation of work equipment” at Rainbarrow Farm.

Return from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace will be more direct than five-mile journey of Queen Elizabeth II

King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, will arrive at Westminster Abbey for the coronation on 6 May in the sovereign’s newest state carriage, and depart it in the oldest, during a day of celebrations that will see a procession route far shorter than that of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s 1953 coronation, it has been revealed.

The king and queen consort will leave Buckingham Palace in the diamond jubilee state coach, built to celebrate the late queen’s 60th anniversary on the throne in 2012. They will depart, as King Charles III and Queen Camilla, in the 260-year-old gold state coach, which has been used in every coronation since William IV’s in 1831.

In keeping with the king’s wish for a smaller-scale ceremony, the 1.3-mile (2.1km) procession will be much shorter than that staged for the coronation of his mother, who travelled in the gold state coach on both journeys; her outward route to the abbey being 1.6 miles in length, and the return about 5 miles, taking in Haymarket, Piccadilly, Hyde Park Corner, Oxford Street and East Carriage Drive in Hyde Park.

The king and queen consort will instead travel to the abbey in the king’s procession along the Mall, through Admiralty Arch and along the south side of Trafalgar Square, down Whitehall and along Parliament Street. The procession will then travel around the east and south sides of Parliament Square to Broad Sanctuary to arrive at Westminster Abbey, where the coronation service will begin at 11am. The decision is said to be based on practical reasons, being a familiar royal route.

More than 850 community and charity representatives have been invited to the coronation of King Charles III, mingling with the royals, heads of state, politicians, peers and diplomats at Westminster Abbey.

Buckingham Palace has announced more than 450 recipients of the British Empire Medal (BEM) will attend in recognition of the contributions made by volunteers and community champions across the country.

Among them is Max Woosey, a 13-year-old schoolboy who has raised more than £600,000 for North Devon hospice through camping out in his garden for the past three years, after starting his fundraising during the first Covid lockdown.

Many of those chosen to attend were instrumental in providing services and support to their local communities during the lockdowns.

As King Charles III prepares for his coronation, the heir to the throne has substantial American blood for the first time in history — with a connection to the Revolution.

Prince William is one-sixteenth American through his mother, the late Princess Diana, records show, and his lineage traces back to Benajah Strong, who was battling English troops when the first shots were fired in 1775.

That means May 6, when William will play a central role at Westminster Abbey, taking an oath of fealty to his father, will mark a family’s unlikely turn from fighting the monarchy to preparing to assume control of it.

The king and the queen consort will be anointed behind a specially created screen of fine embroidery, held by poles hewn from an ancient windblown Windsor oak and mounted with eagles cast in bronze and gilded in gold leaf, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The anointing screen has been blessed at a special service at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace, and will be used at what historically has been viewed as the most sacred moment of the coronation.

The anointing is traditionally regarded as a moment between the sovereign and God, and the screen is to be used to give sanctity to this moment. Traditionally, the moment is not photographed or televised.

Elsewhere in the Guardian I read a report that polls suggest support for a monarchy has dropped a lot in younger age groups, something like 12% of young (I can't remember the age band) seeing it as "very important" compared with about half of over-50s (probably more of over-60s and over-70s).

I wonder if this might be correlated with the fact that the old queen lived so long. Young and young middle-aged people only knew her as an elderly grandmother type figure who didn't appear to do much, just wander around with a handbag and big hats and occasionally drone out a speech, either her formal speech at the start of each parliament session or occasionally platitudes at formal events with more of folk in suits.

She pops off, then this other old guy, her now elderly son, best known for over-priced cookies and adultery comes along and walks into the job without any consideration for whether he is suited to it, which must be galling for some modern kids, who have been assessed to the bones through their school lives and forced to jump through hoops to get jobs and struggle to find and afford decent homes.

What I saw of her during the Coronation was her constant bored, "get on with it", scowl.

Until the second the crown was put on her head, then she had a "finally! I'll get my due now" half smile, half smirk on her face.
