I'm confused. Is she progressive, or not? I discount anything that RedState says. I understand that she has a primary opponent, What about him?

She's running in Kentucky. What do we think?

Speaking of which, I don't think it's fair to bash McGrath for being too conservative for 2020, and bash Warren for being too liberal for 2020. And that goes double for primary season.

McClatchy
He’s not running. Kentucky Sports Radio Host Matt Jones bows out of U.S. Senate bid.

Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones announced Friday that he will not run for U.S. Senate in 2020, ending months of speculation over whether he would launch an outsider campaign with the goal of taking down U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. ...

Jones decision helps clear the path for McGrath, who has raised more than $10.7 million so far — a formidable sum that has chilled some Democrats from entering a primary despite McGrath’s early stumbles in her campaign, including her flip-flop on whether she supported the Senate’s conformation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

McGrath outraises McConnell in leadup to primary
BY TAL AXELROD - 06/12/20 05:04 PM EDT

Amy McGrath, who is running for the Democratic Party's nomination to face Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), outraised the Republican in the lead-up to the primaries in the Bluegrass State’s Senate race.

McGrath’s campaign reported in a filing with the Federal Election Commission that it raised $11.3 million from April 1-June 3 and currently has $19.3 million in the bank. McConnell’s campaign reported hauling in $7.2 million in the same time period and is sitting on $15.4 million.

Both candidates spent about $6.7 million in the roughly two-month span.

McGrath holds a single digit lead over Booker but the outcome of the race probably will not be known for a week due to the large number of absentee and mail in ballots.

Early call by Decision Desk:

Vox: Amy McGrath just won her unexpectedly close Kentucky Senate primary

McGrath will face off against Mitch McConnell in November.

Retired Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath will face off against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell this fall, after winning a closer-than-expected primary against progressive challenger Charles Booker.

The primary proved to be a nail-biter up until the very end, with Booker and McGrath each pulling ahead at various stages of vote-counting. Booker dominated in Jefferson County, his home area around Louisville and a key area for Democrats. But ultimately, a weaker margin outside of Lexington wasn’t enough to make up McGrath’s showing in rural areas outside the two cities.

Despite election day in Kentucky being held on June 23, a crush of absentee ballots made it impossible to know statewide results until a full week later. Vox’s partner Decision Desk called the race on June 30, around 11:15 am. The week of delays could serve as a preview for the November general election, if it is close.

The Kentucky Senate race was one of the few June 23 primaries where a young progressive Black candidate didn’t surge to victory. Black candidates won a slew of victories in competitive House primaries in New York and Virginia on election night. But Booker still came much closer than most political experts inside and outside the state would have believed a year ago — or even a few months ago.

I remember a Political Studies article I read yeas ago that concluded that a hard fought nomination contest indicated the party thought it had a good chance to win the election.

It's official.
New York Times: Amy McGrath Defeats Charles Booker and Will Face McConnell in Kentucky

Ms. McGrath, who raised over $40 million, won the Democratic primary by narrowly holding off a candidate who had harnessed energy from the protests over racial injustice. ...

One week after the primary was conducted, The Associated Press declared Ms. McGrath the winner after a campaign that was shaped by the coronavirus pandemic and protests against racial injustice. She narrowly defeated Charles Booker, an African-American state lawmaker who harnessed anger over a pair of fatal shootings by the authorities in Louisville to roar into contention in the final weeks of the campaign.

Bernie and AOC endorsed Booker. Guess it didn't help enough.

Their endorsements might have helped to get out the vote. I am sure Charles Booker was a good candidate, certainly way better than the Moscow Man

Meh. Not a good idea for a Dem to endorse another Dem in a primary race. It only causes some division when the endorsed candidate loses. You didn't see Obama endorsing anyone in the presidential primaries, though I suspect that he had a personal preference.

Bernie and AOC endorsing a candidate in a KY Senate race probably hurts that candidate in the general more than it helps in the primary. If Booker had won, Mitch would be on easy street scaring the ever-loving shit out of white moderates about how the commies are coming for their bank accounts. Good luck running that playbook against McGrath, who is about as much of a socialist as Joe Biden is.
