Eebbers, TSA's oldest and cutest bomb-sniffing dog, retires after a decade of service

The 11-year-old vizsla-Labrador mix was born into TSA's Puppy Program at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and, at the time of his retirement, was the last remaining Puppy Program canine still working daily for the agency. He was named after U.S. Army Pvt. James Ebbers, who died at age 19 in Djibouti, Africa in 2002 while assigned to the 551st Military Police Company (based at Fort Campbell, Ky.).

In addition to his work sniffing for explosives as a passenger screening canine at MSP, Eebbers also helped with security at major sporting events including two Super Bowls, the Indianapolis 500, an NCAA National Championship football game and the Special Olympics World Games. And he also makes time for fun.

"He stays very active every day, even during the cold Minnesota winters, and he loves swimming in any of Minnesota's 10,000 lakes in the summer," according to TSA.

It is clear to me that the sheepdog had the zoomies. Zoomies always take precedence over the mundane tasks of actually working, amirite?

Question because I am trying to figure out what my level of concern should be (and trying very hard to not freak out).

Yesterday, I noticed Lola started limping slightly on her back right leg. She wasn't crying, whining, or refusing to move, just being a little slower than normal getting off the couch and had trouble hopping up on the bed last night. She is still limping a little bit today.

She has been running around the yard chasing squirrels and rabbits in the yard just fine. But still a slight limp.

When should I get really worried? I know she can have 1/2 a buffered aspirin (she is a 50 lb dog). Will that help ease it a bit? My guess is she twisted her ankle or knee a little yesterday.

The 8 Best Eco-Friendly Dog Products of 2022
Keep your pooch and planet happy with these sustainable products.

Best Poop Bags: The Original Poop Bags

If you walk your dog, you can’t leave the house without poop bags. Maybe you use biodegradable bags hoping the bags won’t stick around forever in landfills, but “biodegradable” is just a marketing term. One 2019 study conducted by the University of Plymouth International Marine Litter Research Unit found that some “biodegradable” bags stayed intact in soil, seawater, and the open air for three years or longer.1 By contrast, compostable bags decayed in as little as three months under certain conditions.

These poop bags are made from corn, vegetable oils, and compostable polymers, and they meet the American Society for Testing and Materials standard for commercial compostability. Beyond their compostable bonafides, the Original Poop Bags are also soft, sturdy, have easy-to-tie handles, and come available in rolls that fit standard poop bag holder.
