https://www.theguardian.com/science/202 ... ehold-dies
The loss of a loved one can have a profound impact on humans, affecting everything from sleep patterns to appetite. Now researchers say they have found similar behaviour changes in dogs who have lost a canine companion.

While the team say it is not clear if the findings can be described as grief, they say the work potentially indicates an overlooked welfare issue.

Dr Federica Pirrone of the University of Milan, who is one of the study’s authors, said: “Dogs are highly emotional animals who develop very close bonds with the members of the familiar group. This means that they may be highly distressed if one of them dies and efforts should be made to help them cope with this distress.”

Expressions of grief are not unique to humans: great apes, dolphins, elephants and birds are among species that have been observed to take part in rituals around death and appear to mourn.

When Chili Dog died I had no intention of getting another dog, I counted on it being me and Root Beer against the world but as sad as I was, Root Beer was devastated.

For a few years, Chili Dog had been blind and Root Beer led her around. It wasn't that unusual for me to leave a room and shut the door with Chili Dog still inside, so Root Beer would paw at the door to get me to let her out. For weeks after she died, poor Root Beer would go from door to door, pawing at them, and I'd have to show her that no, Chili Dog wasn't locked in the closet. When she started going up to neighbors doors when we'd go outside, it was more than I could bear, so I looked around until I found Biscuit. I took her a while to warm up to her, and she's still very jealous of some of her toys, but they make a good pair.

If you look close that's actually a wool sweater, made to look like chain mail.

At a Ren Festival you can sometimes buy puppy chain mail, but its stupid expensive. That little coat that would fit a doxie I've seen for $1599.

I imagine that a crochet sweater (is that crochet, I have no idea what I am talking about in something like this) is a fair amount easier to create than chain mail. Not to mention, choosing a sweater over chain mail means you don't risk bad luck if you don't forward it to 10 friends.

It's knit. Garter stitch.

I've gotten DNA tests for my dogs and both held a number of surprises - the biggest being that both dogs were listed by their respective adoption agencies as Lab mixes and neither has any Lab in their DNA. In fact, both are mostly Pit Bull - which I'm ok with since my city went from breed bans to judgements based on an individual dog's behavior. Oh, and because I'm utterly in love and couldn't as for a better pair. They're both just really wonderful dogs!

Von is our boy. He's just turned 2:

Sasha is our girl, who just turned 1 (they're birthdays are 1 year and 13 days apart  )

So sorry, Foggy. Adoptive dads are real daddies in the feline and human worlds.

WHO approved allowing Amy Kremer to have dogs? Haven't been this upset since seeing Miki Booth and poor Cinnamon. Should we have the GA SPCA swat her house? You just know there's abuse... borsht flavored Pupperoni, making the pup wear a Marjorie Taylor Greene sweater, having to listen to SL2XIT's rallies... it's cruel and inhumane.
