Arizona lawmaker Rusty Bowers to receive Presidential Citizens Medal
On the 2-year anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, Rusty Bowers — who resisted Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Arizona — will receive the nation’s second-highest civilian award

On the two-year anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol attack, Arizona Speaker of the House Rusty Bowers — who resisted former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election in his state — will be given the nation’s second-highest civilian honor.

President Joe Biden will award Bowers the Presidential Citizens Medal on Friday at a ceremony at the White House, multiple sources told the Deseret News. Bowers will be the award’s first living recipient since 2012, when then-President Barack Obama honored civil rights activist and U.S. senator Harris Wofford.

“I am not often speechless,” Bowers told the Deseret News. “It’s an honor, for sure.”

Bowers testified before the Jan. 6 committee last June, in which he recounted pressure from Trump, attorney Rudy Giuliani and Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., to illegally overturn election results in his state, which Biden won. Bowers’ resistance — and later decision to offer his testimony after being subpoenaed — cost Bowers his seat in the Arizona state Legislature.

He refused to commit an illegal and unconstitutional act. For that we are giving medals? Is base line ethics among the GOP so rare it is medal worthy?

Assistant attorney general who launched dubious Arizona election probe ousted

The controversial head of the Arizona Attorney General's Election Integrity Unit is out of a job.

Jennifer Wright, who publicly supported right-wing candidates and then used her office to investigate their election losses, was removed from her position this week, according to the Attorney General's Office.

In one of her first official acts, newly elected Attorney General Kris Mayes told Wright to resign or be fired, her office confirmed Wednesday.

Mayes has pledged to shift the unit's primary mission from investigating allegations of voter fraud to combating acts of voter intimidation and threats to elections officials. She said the office should be ensuring the rights of voters are upheld and that there is "no voter suppression in the state of Arizona."

Wright, in a social media post Thursday, denied she was fired. She said she resigned before Mayes took office. Her LinkedIn page says she stopped working at the Attorney General's Office in December 2022.

I am quite sure that the printers did not read ballots, either in the Primaries or the General election cycle.

Perhaps the printers that are being looked into are those old-fashioned ink-stained sorts like ole Ben Franklin?

My theory is that at some vote centers, they had the same printers spitting out both ballots and receipts. The receipts were set for a lighter fuser setting than the ballots. It they printed a ballot too soon after printing a receipt, the fuser might not have been at the proper operating temperature for the ballot media, especially along the margins where the timing marks were.


Actually, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I just made all that up, but it sounds good, doesn't it?
