Our longtime neighbor to the west was just taken away in an ambulance.

Our Association president came down and told us that he had a low blood pressure incident, fell and hit his head. That neighbor is the oldest member of the Association.

Cold, wet and windy, day 4. One more day to go.

Six wild turkeys in the Circle. Since all the summer residents with dogs have left, the turkeys are emboldened. ;)

Do wild turkeys get part of Thanks Giving dinners?

Not on Long Island but limited hunting is allowed in rural areas upstate. One turkey can be taken by every licensed turkey hunter each season.

Radio news reports that over the last 5 days we got 5 inches of rain.

That goes a long way toward easing the rain deficit we have endured since the late spring.

I'm only about 40 miles from you, over in southern Connecticut. The mayor of our town put out a phone alert through the emergency system today that said that the rain is great, but the reservoirs are still extremely low due to the drought over the summer, so he continues to keep water conservation restrictions in effect.

Our Texoma area has the same problem. The average reservoir fill there has dropped to 67%. When it reaches 65%, mandatory water use limitations will go into effect. The reservoirs don't just provide municipal water. They also support recreational users and wildlife.

Here on the North Fork the municipal water doesn't come from reservoirs. It comes from wells. If more water is used in a day than the wells can provide that triggers use restrictions.

The big users of ground water are agriculture and landscaping. We have been tight on water supply all summer due to lack of rain. When we get rain the farm fields and landscaping take less water. It is now fall so both landscaping and agricultural uses are reduced.

We will turn off our sprinkler system in about 3 weeks. ;)

The sun has reappeared!

The good weather has at least one lawnmower near us running.

Also low flying aircraft are back.

Our neighbor to the west remains in the hospital. :(

Mrs.V's cousin who lives down by the Bay and her husband have returned from France.

The acorns continue to fall. Squirrels getting fat.

Our neighbor was just bought back from the hospital. His daughter and one of his caretakers got him out of the car and into a wheelchair. He was alert and talking.

Mrs. V went over and is talking with the daughter.

I can't overhear due to lawnmowers. ;)

Mrs.V's cousin who lives down by the Bay just tested positive for Covid. :o

She sounded hoarse when we spoke to her on the phone the day after she got back from France.

Beautiful early morning here. Reminds me of summer mornings in New England when I was a boy.

High of 74F this afternoon. Tonight a dry cold front is due so this may be the last warm afternoon for a long time.

Just made a list of things to do to close up the cottages.

It is a dauntingly long list.

The "dry cold front" now passing thru has brought cold rain which is now falling.

Not the local Oldies station's weather service's finest hour.
