"For completeness": the causes of action are breach of fiduciary duty; breach of contract (NDA); breach of implied covenant of good faith (essentially, tort relief in case there was no valid contract); unjust enrichment; and conversion.

The ask is $500,074,000; don't forget the $74k for the conversion claim!

Could this lawsuit be a back door approach to prevent Cohen from testifying in the criminal trial in New York, or in the alternative, discredit him before he takes the stand?

Too slow a method to discredit.

Revenge and witness tampering is my opinion.

I can't imagine Bragg indicting the OSG if Cohen were his only ace in the hole.

I’m assuming Cohen knows where the crime-fraud exception line is, and likely every conversation he had with Trump is on the wrong side of it.

Most if not all of this stuff he’s testifying to he’s already said in his plea negotiations and his allocution in federal court. This lawsuit isn’t going anywhere.

Martindale-Hubbell used to be legit but is now a scam. I've been retired for 3 years and I still get spam from them telling me I have been nominated by my peers as deserving of the highest award which they will commemorate with a plaque for only $299.00.

Hahaha

Your honour Mr Cohen does not deny making those statements, indeed those statements speak to the veracity of Mr Cohen’s evidence for that evidence does not spring from enmity.

Trump Sues Michael Cohen, the Key Witness Against Him
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Florida, accuses Mr. Cohen of revealing Mr. Trump’s confidences and “spreading falsehoods” about him.

Donald J. Trump on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against his former fixer, Michael D. Cohen, just weeks after being indicted in a case in which Mr. Cohen is expected to serve as a star witness.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Florida, accuses Mr. Cohen of revealing Mr. Trump’s confidences and “spreading falsehoods” about him. It directly references Mr. Cohen’s role in the Manhattan district attorney’s criminal case against Mr. Trump, which stems from a hush-money payment Mr. Cohen made on the former president’s behalf in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

The case, while potentially far-fetched, suggests that Mr. Trump may be seeking to silence Mr. Cohen.

“It could be an attempt to pressure Michael Cohen not to testify, but that pressure is unlikely to work,” said Ellen C. Yaroshefsky, a professor specializing in legal ethics at Hofstra University’s law school.

She added that she did not think the lawsuit amounted to witness tampering under New York law, as it was not a direct attempt to interfere with Mr. Cohen’s testimony, and other legal experts concurred.

Yet in a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny J. Davis, argued, “Mr. Trump appears once again to be using and abusing the judicial system as a form of harassment and intimidation.” He added that Mr. Trump was apparently “terrified by his looming legal perils and is attempting to send a message to other potential witnesses who are cooperating with prosecutors against him.”

Christopher M. Kise, a lawyer representing Mr. Trump in a civil case that was brought by the New York attorney general and that Mr. Cohen’s testimony helped initiate, lashed out at Mr. Cohen, suggesting that he had lied in the past to various officials.

“He’s lied to everyone he’s ever come in contact with,” Mr. Kise said. “So at some point someone needs to hold this serial liar accountable.”

Mr. Trump’s lawsuit, brought by Alejandro Brito, a lawyer in Coral Gables, Fla., seeks significant punitive damages against Mr. Cohen, but it seemed possible that the case would backfire. Last year, when the former president filed the lawsuit against the New York attorney general, Letitia James, who has sued Mr. Trump and his family business, some members of his legal team objected. There was similar dissent among his lawyers over whether to sue Mr. Cohen, people with knowledge of the matter said.

Trump Rips Letitia James as He Heads to Her Office to Testify
The former president will be deposed in the $250 million fraud lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/p ... 234714256/
The former president is in Manhattan on Thursday to answer questions under oath in a lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The $250 million suit accuses Trump and three of his children of “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentations” related to their business in the state. The case is expected to go to trial later this year.

Trump was deposed in the case once before, last summer, before James brought the suit. He wasn’t interested in answering questions, invoking the Fifth Amendment hundreds of times. The former president doesn’t seem like he’s going to be in a mood to answer questions on Thursday, either.

“I will be heading downtown to meet with a Racist who leaked that I would be there at 9:30 A.M.” he wrote Thursday morning on Truth Social. “The leak makes it much more difficult for the Police and Secret Service to do their job. This civil case is ridiculous, just like all of the other Election Interference cases being brought against me. If I had a fair judge, this case would have never happened. MAGA!”

Trump has been trying desperately to cast the myriad investigations into his conduct as “election interference,” while labeling the Black people investigating him — including James, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis — as racist. Trump was in Manhattan last week to plead not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsification of business records brought by Bragg in a historic indictment of the former president. Willis is investigating whether Trump meddled in Georgia’s 2020 presidential election.

The investigation that could pose the biggest threat to Trump, however, may be the Justice Department’s probe into his handling of sensitive material upon leaving the White House, which is being overseen by Special Counsel Jack Smith. The New York Times reported on Wednesday that investigators are now asking witnesses whether Trump showed off a map with classified information to people who shouldn’t have seen it. Smith, who was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland last fall, is also investigating the effort to overturn the 2020 election results.

I can’t wait for the day when the media decides to be blunt about who tfg really is.

Privately, most know him as petulant, ignorant, nativist, and mean, but you’d never know that by the totality of their reporting. He comes across as a regular guy when he’s anything but.

They haven't. They are very judicial in their reporting trying very hard not to convey any bias because their federal funding depends on it. They are under constant threat from the GOP. The days of public radio carrying the voices not heard are gone. Bothisidesism is the rule of the day.
