A lot of it is a pain in the ass. Especially the wounds I have on my legs. They go away for a time and then come back. The A-fib doesn't really bother me except for the 5 zillion meds that I'm on for it. Okay it's 6 but I was on nothing, so it seems like a lot.

One thing folks may not know about chronic illnesses is you don't (or I don't) experience symptoms daily. Like your leg wounds, my symptoms appear for a time, then go away until they come back again. The underlying disease or syndrome remains. It took me a long time to get diagnosed because of this.

What the heck is this thing? It's on the mighty Neuse River, and I walk past it often. It's obviously abandoned from an earlier time, but I can't figure out what it is or what it did. I took the photo earlier this year, before spring blocked the view with a lot of leaves on the trees.

Any info would be appreciated!

I have a question about EVs. In a regular auto you can carry a can of gas of you run out. Is there anything like that for an EV? seems like you’d have to meticulously plan your travel route with an EV and had better not be wrong about your range or you’re SOL.

There are apps to show you where the nearest charging stations are. We use plugshare - kinda like Waze - other users update with pictures, tell you whether it worked or not.

We have as 2018 Nissan Leaf. Since it’s older it only has a max of about 160 miles. We charge it overnight on 110 (it takes about 12 hours on 110 to get fully charged). We use it for trips to the store or to my sister’s farm. Wayne took it to Reston not too long ago and went to the Nissan dealership to charge it up on their super charger (took about 30 minutes).

I dunno. For one thing, it's on the other side of the mighty Neuse River, which is too dang cold for me to swim still, being fed from the bottom of Falls Lake. So I can't go exploring in the vicinity. For another thing, any buildings or farms might have existed, but no longer do.

Pretty obviously, it was something somebody put some money into building. I don't know if it was before or after they dammed the river upstream to create Falls Lake. I suppose it could have something to do with logs being floated downstream before the dam was built (the dam is only a little more than a mile upstream, but they floated logs down a number of rivers in NC, in fact, there's a mini-industry now of retrieving logs that sunk along the various rivers to make furniture and stuff).

But the mighty Neuse River, even in its best days, was not a raging torrent. I wonder if it would have been used to float logs, it's not big enough until many miles further downstream. Near the ocean, it widens to more than a kilometer.

Still a mystery ...

Here a travelogue for six hours of my yesterday afternoon. Friday 4PM the state forestry dept called me requesting I enter the Riverside burn area to triage their comm equipment that went dark Thursday, and they haven't been able to recover it. This is in one of the forest fire areas close to Portland last September that painted our skies orange for weeks. It's closed to the public now because of the tree fall and landslide dangers (plural).

There's some pretty barren landscapes up there, but as expected life was peeking out everywhere. Some of the roads had changed, and I had to follow a crudely copied forestry map someone had marked up with a sharpie. All the landmarks were gone, forestry signs were gone, and I had to pay attention to my mileage to determine which split in the road to take.

The pavement ended as soon as I got into the conflagration area turning into roughly bulldozed pit rocked twin tracks with impossible grades in a few places. I ran into snow as I gained elevation above 5000ft. I found the site and got them restored in an hour. Got a good view of the sunset from up there, and for a change the clouds were cleared enough for me to see the small lake tucked into the base of the cliff the site is built on. I has home by 10pm. Overall, a nice trip.

Alright, so my COVID-hair was getting completely out of control since my clippers broke -- and my two nearby friends with clippers, one of theirs broke and the other loaned to a friend. So I was looking like the Shaggy D.A. (we're most all old enough to know that ref, sans FRP)

Got on Amazon a few days ago and found/ordered this. It's more than I wanted to spend, but damn, this kit rocks. This is heavy duty-- not what you'll find on a shelf at a Walgreens/CVS.

I've chopped most of my mop off, but I need to go to a friend to help me finish.
