Obviously the Liberal Media cut out most of the message about how unfair it is and how it was a witch hunt and part of the deep state conspiracy. YOu know, like real presidents.

Is this judge the same one that buggered up the plea deal that Hunter originally had?

IANAL - are capital murder cases the only cases where the jury is charged with sentencing? This will be only the judge making the sentence? Probation makes sense in this case. I think technically he did break the law and that's what the jury found, but it doesn't seem worthy of incarceration. There seems to be very few cases of this kind - from what I'm seeing this is charged along with other related charges, like using the illegally obtained weapon for another crime, so it would be interesting to see what other sentences have been where this is the only charge.

I assume he got a gun for protection given his name. Republicans should be all in favor.

In this case, I would have nullified. No murders, robberies or shooting. No sign of intent that I know of.

What happened to the plea deal?

The plea deal was offered for the tax charges and included the gun charges as secondary, but it fell apart when the judge said it was too broad.

IIRC, the court said it wouldn't accept the plea deal (which federal courts can do).

And 25 years maximum is theoretical. Rralistic sentence is much less.

CNN is reporting that they have spoken with three jurors. Those three jurors said based on jury instructions and testimony they had no choice but to find him guilty. They also questioned why these specific charges were even pursued and did not agree with the decision to prosecute.

If Biden loses the election IMO he would be wise to pardon Hunter on his way out of DC. If he doesn't, Trump will use the justice system to punish Hunter just like he did with Michael Cohen. Except this time he will have judges in place that will play along with him.

And honestly, fuck my fellow Americans if they don't have the decency to elect a decent person. I would not leave my son at the mercy of someone who has already admitted he is out for retribution.

RWNJ radio (Bongino and Gorka, specifically) are crowing that this conviction means that tfg's conviction no longer matters. Because someone was going to vote for Hunter for President, I guess? Not sure how they figure that.

But it did matter; it mattered to the prosecutors. Because the prosecutors wouldn’t have charged this gun case if Hunter Biden wasn’t the President’s son.

I was a federal prosecutor in SDNY’s violent crimes unit and then I oversaw that unit as a deputy chief of SDNY’s criminal division. I have prosecuted and supervised many gun cases and in 12 years, I never saw anyone charged solely for lying about their drug use to buy a gun. Much less a first-time offender with no criminal history who had the gun for 11 days and never used it.

Hunter Biden was treated worse than anyone else would be by these Special Counsel prosecutors because he’s the President’s son. That’s not justice.

I listen to some podcasts that have focus groups, none of them were saying a Hunter conviction would matter, not even the ones who voted Trump in 2016 and 2020.

tfgJr owns like 27 guns, good thing he's never done any drugs.

Does this pretty much guarantee he will get prison time for the tax conviction, assuming he's convicted on those charges as well? After all, that won't be a first offense, it will be a second offense.

This. The prosecution's argument that since Hunter in his book took the position that "once an addict always an addict" (a common and positive approach to addiction), it didn't really matter if he was using at the time or not. Since he considered himself an addict, he was committing a felony by checking the box. A lawyer head I heard today pointed out that "being addicted" was in itself a ridiculously vague and undefined term in the law in question.

How many drug using gun owners do you think there are in this country? Millions? Madness.
