Today's weather.
Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Windy, with a south wind 18 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.
.Fire Weather...
Strong gusty winds, warm temperatures and low afternoon relative
humidity will result in elevated to near critical fire weather
conditions this afternoon. This will mainly occur across far
western Oklahoma and western north Texas.

Today the local school district, WFISD, broke ground on two new modern high schools to replace the existing three old high schools.

I heartily approve.

I got up to see snow this morning. Yikes. It's not totally unheard of here in April, but a lot of things have been blooming, and it's been warm. My magnolia tree is in bloom. It doesn't bloom wildly because it's in the woods, but it always blooms. It's going to warm up soon again, though, so there's that.

Back in the last century, central Arkansas had almost yearly snowfalls in late March or early April. A local humorist dubbed it the Snowball and Daffodils Festival.

Real estate market remains hot here. Our daughter and SIL put their old house on the market yesterday. Nine showings are scheduled for today and they have already had two above asking price offers. :o

Their agent is going to tell prospective buyers to have their best and final offers ready for tomorrow.

After the house had been on Zillow for only 2 hours there we nearly 200 views.

TX is supposedly hot now due to inviting everyone there for open carry and minimal gun laws.

Two more offers have come in. Six more showings tonight.

Just goes to show what putting new vinyl flooring in the bathroom can do for a house. ;)

Two counties to our east-

Breaking: A husband and wife from rural Montague County are the latest North Texans to be arrested by the FBI and accused of assaulting officers during the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6. https://trib.al/UloRg7F
Fun fact- most people pronounce "Montague" mon ta gue but this county's name is pronounced mon tag.

When the dust settled yesterday our daughter and SIL had received 12 offers on their house which was on the market for 2 days.

They and their agent sorted them out and accepted the one that was best overall, an investor who wanted it as a rental property and would pay cash. No inspection, no warranty, no appraisal, no waiting for a mortgage approval. Closing already scheduled. They will make a healthy profit.

Yep, new vinyl flooring in the bathroom is irresistible. ;)

CBS News
@CBSNews
As powerful storms sweep across the southern U.S., video captured a tornado blowing across a field in Vernon, Texas on Friday.
Vernon is just 50 miles west of here. Last night we lost power in the storms. I was on my PC tracking the tornado warnings after getting an alert on my phone when there was a loud banging sound and everything went dark.

Power came back on about an hour later.

Water, we have it!

Recent storms ease drought worries

https://www.timesrecordnews.com/story/n ... 886605001/
Storms that rolled through the area in recent days have alleviated drought worries around Wichita Falls -- at least for the moment.

Official rainfall total in Wichita Falls on Thursday was 7.28 inches since Jan. 1. That's just 0.18 below the normal for this date. North Texas had a chance for more rain Thursday and again Saturday and Sunday morning.

Thunderstorms that moved through the region beginning this past Friday rolled over the watersheds of Wichita Falls reservoirs.

Lake Arrowhead was 98.7 percent full Thursday while Lake Kemp was at 87.6 percent of capacity and Lake Kickapoo was 81.2 percent full.

Since all 6 of us are immunized our younger daughter and her husband will be coming up for the Mothers Day weekend. Also bringing their cat and rats. :?

Today is our older daughter's birthday. Going out to a sushi restaurant to celebrate. This will be my first meal in a restaurant since early March 2020. Sure hope the vaccines are effective. ;)
