I'm guessing the jerk representing Roddie who called him a moron on national TV is not on this defense team. I'm guessing the $$ ran out. But just guessing.

About the shotgun... someone testified it was pump-action, therefore he'd need to reload after every shot?
Mine takes I think five shells, and the pump loads them. Only need to reload after every 5.
A break-down double barrel, yes, you need to hand-load. But pump action? I'z confuzzled.

Re: Killing of Ahmaud Arbery - Federal Hate Crime Charges
My understanding is that the shotgun used was a pump-action shotgun, i.e. pumped to eject each spent round and reload a fresh one between each firing. No external reload. Dunno for sure though.roadscholar wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 1:00 pm About the shotgun... someone testified it was pump-action, therefore he'd need to reload after every shot?

Disconnecting anything is illegal in many places. I researched this for GA. The law is a bit confusing but this form of retaliation for late rent is very likely illegal in GA.

All three defendants are using different lawyers in their federal case.
TM = A.J. Balbo
GM = Amy Lee Copeland
WRB = J. Pete Theodocion

Well, that makes sense at least. Who would look at the first trial and say, well, that went so well for us we should use the same lawyers again!

I'm shocked. TM and WRB have no witnesses? Not even one?! And GM has only one witness??

And GM didn't tell his son to grab his gun and then chase the white man in his truck for five minutes. Not did GM threaten to blow off the white man's head.

This trial is shocking. The Prosecution has so much more evidence than I expected then to have. And none of the 3 witnesses have a single character witness.

Re: Killing of Ahmaud Arbery - Federal Hate Crime Charges
I honestly thought the defense had more of a defense.
Opening arguments; yes, all 3 are racists and their words are despicable. But Arbery's race had nothing to do with the defendants' use of force to intimidate, chase, and herd him! That's not why they blocked Arbery's attempts to escape from them! And it's just a coincidence that TM and GM were armed!!
Seriously, all three would have done the same thing to a white man. Honest!
They might be racists, but they aren't that racist!!
The charges:
In the federal trial, the three men face hate-crime charges of using force and threats of force to intimidate and interfere with Mr. Arbery’s right to use a public street because of his race.
The defendants have also been charged with one count of attempted kidnapping. In addition, the McMichaels were charged with using, carrying and brandishing a firearm, and Travis McMichael is also accused of discharging a firearm.

Re: Killing of Ahmaud Arbery - Federal Hate Crime Charges
William “Roddie” Bryan had never seen Ahmaud Arbery and didn’t know if a crime had been committed when he left his front porch, hopped in his truck and helped two neighbors chase the 25-year-old through their subdivision, a GBI agent testified Thursday.
But he suspected the Black man “had done something wrong” as Arbery fled past his house with Greg and Travis McMichael in pursuit, he would later tell investigators.
“I cut him off pretty good,” Bryan, now 52, told the police.
“Should we have been chasing him? I don’t know,” Bryan chuckled as he spoke with a Glynn County police officer at the scene that afternoon. He also referred to Arbery as “the Black guy” and a “joker” as Arbery’s body lay in the street nearby, Seacrist testified.
“When I see him come around the the corner right there, it was almost like the Black guy was tired of running,” Bryan said in a recorded interview played for the jury.
Bryan would agree to sit for two lengthy interviews with Seacrist just days before his arrest. He even took the GBI agent on a “drive-thru recreation” of his route through Satilla Shores that afternoon.

Jeez, I can't believe I almost forgot how long it took for these murderers to even be arrested, it was two and a half months. Gross.just days before his arrest

Re: Killing of Ahmaud Arbery - Federal Hate Crime Charges
TM would have loved me ... I dated a black man for 3 years. I then dated an Egyptian Muslim. My Mister is Japanese/Indigenous American.A woman Travis McMichael supervised during his time in the U.S. Coast Guard broke down on the witness stand Friday as she told the jury he repeatedly insulted her when he discovered she had previously dated a Black man.
Kristie Ronquille, who still serves in the Coast Guard, said she was stationed with McMichael in Pascagoula, Mississippi, in 2011.
McMichael outranked her at the time, but the two had friends in common and saw each other in social settings on several occasions, Ronquille said. The Kentucky native broke down as she told jurors about a time she was insulted by McMichael after turning on an NBA game and recognizing a player she had dated in high school. The player, she said, was Black.
Travis said disparaging things after learning of her dating history, she testified, and began calling her a “(n-word) lover,” she alleged.
“It took me back and I felt disrespected,” said Ronquille.
Asked by assistant U.S. Attorney Tara Lyons why she never reported McMichael, Ronquille said she had only recently finished basic training at the time and referred to herself as “still green.” She also said she was worried because McMichael was her supervisor.
“It was the first time I’d ever heard remarks used like that,” she said, crying.
Ronquille said that McMichael called her that multiple times after learning of her dating history.
Amy Lee Copeland, McMichael’s attorney, said during a previous interview with the FBI, Ronquille told agents she was only “90% sure he called her that.” Copeland was unable to play the audio of that interview in court, however, and did not have a transcript of the conversation to present as evidence before lunch.

Re: Killing of Ahmaud Arbery - Federal Hate Crime Charges
Over five days in Brunswick, Ga., jurors heard from witnesses called by federal prosecutors: former colleagues and neighbors, forensic experts, law enforcement officers, and even, indirectly, from the three defendants in their own words, through text messages and social media posts read out loud in court.
Only one witness was called by the defense on behalf of Greg McMichael, a woman who testified that McMichael had on one occasion also went to check out a white stranger near the neighborhood; evidence that his vigilantism extended to all, regardless of race.
No witnesses testified for either Travis McMichael or Roddie Bryan.
Closing arguments for both sides will begin on Monday, keeping the multi-racial jury sequestered over the weekend.
