Yes, and I was just a little kid then.

I just wanted to point out Abbott's lying if he's saying "pro Hamas" when they're anti war. Manipulating public opinion.
Manipulating his language use too:

"Students joining in hate-filled, antisemitic protests at any public college or university"

He's shifted his rhetoric to cover his ass: He started out calling the students pro-Hamas/anti-Israel and has shifted to students just being in the same place with what I'll call agitators. The fascism is strong in this one.

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Juarez industry officials say commercial truck delays at El Paso border crossings are costing them up to $32 million a day.

The delays started on Saturday when the Texas Department of Public Safety resumed enhanced safety inspections of all trucks coming across from Mexico at the Ysleta port of entry and the Bridge of the Americas.

I haven't heard much about this proposal so am off to do research, but my first question would be 'Does this mean they become active-duty Space Force units or a Space National Guard?' and my second question would be 'if the latter, aren't they remaining a National Guard attached to the state and if so, does that still defy the laws and policies that Abbott cites?'

My brief research suggests there is no Space National Guard (which is part of the problem).

Basically, it sounds like there's a personnel shortage in Space Force's space guardians (which is their actual name!). So this is a one-off move to staff up Space Force by converting states' guard members into space guardians.

Because slavery is basically illegal in the United States,* a state guard member who doesn't want to become a space guardian doesn't have to. But some will, which will cause shortfalls in states' guard ranks. Hence the whining.

It is less than a thousand people spread over around seven states. Really, much of this is just performative against the federal Biden government.

Question. Do some National Guard units receive specialist training for unusual threats? Like say protecting nuclear power plants or dealing with the aftermath of a disaster occuring at one?

Why would rocket launch sites and testing facilities not require similar specialist training?

I don't know, but currently states' air guards are trained in certsin duties needed by the Air Force. And those certsin duties are being taken over by Space Force. (Because there's no Space Force reserves), Space Force is understaffed and wants to poach people.

Abbott has pardoned Perry.

Convicted murderer Greg Abbott wants to pardon sought "chats to meet young girls"
"No nudes until you are old enough": Racist murderer's grooming chats exposed

"Included in the tranche of documents the court released after Daniel Perry's murder conviction were sexual communications he appeared to be exchanging with a minor," tweeted Dallas News' Lauren McGaughy.

The excerpt — from the full 75-page filing, hosted online by the Houston Chronicle — reveals a series of disturbing messages between Perry and contacts.

"Ok so im 16 ill be 17 in 3 months u sure u want me," one user wrote to Perry on Kik Messenger.
Perry apparently had to consider it.

"What state?" he asked. Adding later, "promise me no nudes until you are old enough to be of age."

In what may be the most overlooked part of Perry's humiliating exposure, the young girl actually appears put-off when Perry tells her to "come up with a reason I should be your boyfriend." When he then tries to elicit praise from her by asking "So why an old man like me?," the 16-year-old tosses back an impressively savage ego-torcher:

"Wym," [What do you mean?] she says. "I don't want u."

Perry's hunt for minors was also documented in his internet search records -- where "good chats to meet young girls" appeared alongside "attack on Jews in Texas."

Moar about the young girl search.

ABBOTT AIMS TO PARDON RACIST MURDERER WHO SENT EXPLICIT TEXTS TO APPARENT MINOR
The governor didn't even wait a single day before calling for the potential pardon of racist murderer Daniel Perry.

In the days following Abbott’s public pledge to pardon Perry, unsealed documents from the case, including Perry’s web searches and text messages, would reveal that he had made racist comments, previously considered killing people involved with racial justice protests, and most inconveniently for Republicans who have jumped on the “anti-groomer” bandwagon, had inappropriate text exchanges with an apparent 16-year-old girl after searching for “good chats to meet young girls.”

“Ok so im 16 ill be 17 in 3 months u sure u want me,” wrote a user on Kik Messenger, an instant messaging platform with a troubled history of child exploitation scandals. “What state…Also promise me no nudes until you are old enough to be of age,” Perry said later in the same chat. “I am going to bed come up with a reason why I should be your boyfriend before I wake up.”

Since the damning documents were released, Abbott has been quiet on social media, where he first made clear his support for a pardon. It’s uncertain if Abbott intends to follow through with his pledge in light of the evidence, or whether he will even have the chance: The governor of Texas doesn’t have the power to arbitrarily pardon someone like the president of the United States does, they can only pardon someone upon recommendation from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. And there’s a good reason for that.

Occupy Democrats @OccupyDemocrats wrote: BREAKING: The mother of the Black Lives Matter protestor who was ruthlessly murdered by Daniel Perry rips MAGA Governor Greg Abbott for pardoning the killer and robbing her of "long overdue peace."

This is absolutely heartbreaking...

"We finally got a trial and we finally got justice, we finally got long overdue peace, and then the governor ripped it right from under us," said Sheila Foster, mother of the murdered Garret Foster. "My life has been hell the last four years."

Foster said that she's lost 40 pounds since her son's death and is battling cervical cancer, which has been exacerbated by the constant stress of worrying about her son's killer walking free.

"I’ve been sick ever since the governor announced his plans to pardon. There’s not been a single week where I have been healthy every day," she said.

Her son was marching with racial justice protestors and legally carrying a gun under Texas law when Perry attempted to drive through the group and then opened fire, killing Foster.

"I feel like I’m living in a nightmare that I can’t wake up from, and I haven’t been able to grieve for my child like a normal person," said Sheila Foster.

She believes that Abbott should be removed from office.

"I will spend the rest of my life making sure that happens. This is so corrupt and it’s all a political circus," she added.

"He grew up an animal lover with birds, dogs, lizards and snakes,” she said of her son.

Abbott blatantly pardoned Perry to send a message to Republicans that it's okay to kill their political rivals. Conservatives are glad that a BLM activist is dead and they have no problem abusing the powers of the state to pardon his killer. It's disgusting and inexcusable.

I don't think Texas allows recall of state-level officials, so it'd have to be impeachment, right? Good luck on that in Texas. I mean, I feel for the family, but I can't see any universe in which Abbott gets impeached on this as grounds.

I live in AZ where we have VLT, my last one-year registration was four figures. Cry me a river. But seriously, in the name of encouraging people to purchase electric vehicles, I hate to see this. But in the name of gas taxes pay for road work, I'm not entirely against it.
