Our older daughter's school district has just enacted a 3% salary increase on top of the annual bump in pay for continuing teachers. There will also be some increase in benefits.
Like most Texas teachers our daughter is thinking a lot about school security. After talking with her yesterday I know more about where the doors are in her building and the number of police on campus than I ever imagined knowing.

Also, the Republicans can forget about turning schools into fortress prisons. The most vulnerable times are outside recess, outdoor gym class and dismissal. The students are like ducks in a shooting gallery then.

Henrietta is the county seat of Clay County just to the east of us.
The bad news is that the boy's parents don't have auto or medical insurance.

Not Texoma but our previous TX city.
Our previous TX city, Baytown is in the running to be the new home of the Texas after the restoration.

The TX grid survived last week. Time to start worrying about next week.
Good time to be on the North Fork or in Paris. Our SIL who is alone in Texoma must deal with the heat as best he can.

Did not know that the US picks up Sahara dust too. In Europe it happens a couple of times each year. The car wash companies like it

Texans having to compete with overseas consumers for limited supply of Texas natural gas.
Most electricity in TX is produced using gas so electricity prices are spiking just as the hottest weather starts.

WICHITA COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — A large grass fire continues to burn in western Wichita County as the high fire danger in the county threatens to see this fire grow even larger.
Multiple agencies, including the Wichita Falls Fire Department, the Wichita West Volunteer Fire Department, the Kamay Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office, are assisting with this fire.
According to officials with the Wichita West Fire Department, the fire has been named the Koonce Fire.
About 15 miles west of our Texas house.

Just a thought... since I've never been to the Texoma area, I am not at all familiar with patterns of wildfires in northern Texas. Are the fire notices you're posting consistent with a normal fire season or is this an unprecedented disaster? Since this is the first season you've posted these fire notices, it's hard to figure out whether this is normal, somewhat worse than normal, or a sign of the Apocalypse... Thanks!

Worse than normal. Severe drought conditions and record high temperatures for this early in summer. Forecast high today in Wichita Falls is 107F. Reservoirs already below 80% of capacity. By August things could be very bad.
