Well, I was at Ohio State when that started. I don't know the exact date, but I would guess it was about 1968 to 1972. And yes, I thought at the time, and still do, that it was a stupid idea.

ETA: I think the reason for adding "The" is to emphasize that OSU is the State of Ohio's land-grant university and that Ohio University in Athens, Ohio is not. Big deal.

This is a house of Ohio State fans.

My father-in-law, a man who I admired greatly for many reasons, graduated from OSU in 1938 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He spent a lot of WWII helping the (ultimately unsuccessful) effort to invent "aluminum foam" which would have (theoretically) absorbed the shock of enemy artillery. He literally has "Go Bucks!" engraved on his headstone. He proposed to my mother-in-law at an Ohio State - Michigan game.

And he doesn't want Trump in Ohio at all. I knew him well.

OSU is Oregon State or Oklahoma State.

They certainly did when I attended OSU in the 1960s. If you were in Ohio and mentioned OSU, you were talking about Ohio State. What connection do you have with Ohio State?

As an Ohio State alumnus, I agree. Embarrassing.

Everyone in my family went to / or supported the archenemy of tOSU that plays in the Big House.

Except, of course, that scoundrel brother-in-law that went to State.

Also, except me who went to Arizona, a conference rival of another OSU, the one that plays in Corvallis.

So you are not an Ohioan and did not go to Ohio State? My point is that Foggy's father-in-law, who graduated from Ohio State in 1938 would almost certainly have refered to it as 'OSU'. It is probably the development of national televised sports news in the 1950s that has caused fans to refer to schools by their names instead of their abbreviations, which can be confused.

Sorry, bro. We will say OSU. You are obviously not a native of Ohio and probably never been to Columbus, OH.
Outsider.

I've been to Columbus several times, but admittedly not in at least 50 years. So yeah, outsider.

Have at it, you'll get no complaint from me.

But I DO remember, when Arizona kicked tOSU. 1967 it was. tOSU press was touting an undefeated season, and were ranked #3 I think. Arizona came into Colombus and took the wind out of their sails in the first game. It took almost 30 years for tOSU to be brave enough to schedule us again (and of course you've beaten us each time).

My High School PE teacher, who had a side gig as a film reviewer, always claimed that he was looking at tOSU film and noticed that the offensive line was telegraphing the play. Woody Hayes only had about 3 plays, and Arizona was picking them off all day.

There are a lot of people in Ohio who call Ohio State OSU, but most people who went to school there call it THE (dramatic pause) Ohio State University. Even calling it just Ohio State is kind of a sign you didn't go there. As smug as they are though, the truly arrogant assholes are the ones who went to Miami, The Harvard of Ohio. They act like I should refer to the real Harvard as the Miami of the Ivy League.

When I was an undergrad we used to call MIT the vocational school down the street. :rotflmao:
