Since the aircraft is currently in Russia seizure will be problematic.

Yes, however, the seizure order will keep the plane in Russia, where it's no longer a status symbol but a display piece. It won't fly much longer without access to Western maintenance and spare parts. If it lands anywhere in a US-allied country, it gets grabbed. No more use of the company jet to go on vacation in the French Riviera or wherever rich Russian kleptocrats like to go.

The Boss had publicly disagreed with the invasion of Ukraine.

I mean, you gotta admire the chutzpah of the Russian government basically saying "it all started when you hit me back," like someone's whiny little brother.

Not that my little brother ever did that. Much.

This is one of the issues I follow: the thousands (?) of Russian tourists enjoying the delights of other nations. I'm not surprised that it was the Baltics and Poland (which has been effing leading the international resistance of Russia) that have made this move.

There are quite good arguments on both sides of whether or not to welcome Russian tourists in further flung countries: France, Spain, Italy, the UK, Canada, the US. The context of the war is dramatic. There's a knee-jerk reaction to say no way, give reports that Russia is kidnapping Ukrainian civilians and deporting them to Russia, and other events. There is a cautionary side that says, Whoa there; we're not going to blame the Russian people for what their dictator is doing.

Thus far, the debate has been the most heated in the sports world. National teams in multiple sports have been turned away by their governing bodies. Figure skaters are likewise unwelcome to compete in sanctioned events. The tennis tours (ATP, WTA) allowed Russian players to play--but no flags by their names and no mention of their countries. Wimbledon, however, banned Russian players for their big do in July. The ATP and WTA didn't like that, and refused to award ranking points at the tourney as a rebuke. But the other three majors took no such action.

I observe and note the movement.

On the other hand, I don't see any effing argument at all for Russia to retain its seat on the UN Sec. Counc. But maybe that's just me.

The building on the left is the one someone is going to fall out of, that little window almost at the top.

I’m of two minds. Part of me says that anything other countries can do to make individual Russians feel the pain of their government’s policies is worth doing because it would tend to erode support among the populace.

The other part says that when the Russian government is controlling the narrative, both as to the war and the sanctions, keeping Russian tourists in Russia won’t expose them to viewpoints about their government that they’re not currently seeing.

New sanctions need to cause serious pain if they are going to be effective.

There must be things that Russians need that they can only get from the west.

I've been deeply concerned that JPC was forced to sell his yacht because of the falling stock values in Trump Social.

This yacht is for sale and we (the Fogbow "we") should be able to pick this baby up for a coupla greenbacks. JPC has probably been notified of the sale by the yacht broker.

Ugly ass boat. Probably designed to go into a smaller berth while still having lots of floor space.
